I have wanted to be a nurse since I was in the fifth grade. There is in my opinion not a more rewarding job in the world. I just could not ever get up the confidence to finally get my butt in college, I was deathly afraid (social anxiety) and to make matters worse I had some so called friends telling me I wasn't cut out for it anyway. Well I kind of proved them wrong by going and finally registering at a community college. It has been about 2 years now and I only have about 24 credits, and recently turned 26. I am married and wish I could just get this over with so that I could start a family. My question is if I am having such a difficult time with gen ed's now how will I ever get accepted into the program anyway? Has anyone here had the same problem, how did you make it through? BTW I used to be an Esthetician, are their alot of opportunities to work with a Dermatologist/ Plastic surgeon out there?
Thanks in advance!

Be patient. These are just the loops you have to jump thru to get what you want. It WILL happen.
As for working with Dermatologists - I know in my area there are certified wound care nurses who work with these MD's and provide excellent care. Once you get your RN license you can start branching out with certifications and specialities. Good luck!

Which courses are you having trouble with? Are there any tutors on campus to help you out?

Don't be so hard on yourself, if this is something you truly want to do, you will find a way to pull yourself through! Then, once you get into your chosen area of nursing, you will shine!
I started my pre-req's at the age of 38 and have been an RN for 1 1/2 years now, I also suffer from social anxiety. You will see once you have the knowledge, gain some experience and start teaching your patients,
how it all starts to just flow. Before you know it, you are the one with experience and your confidence will flourish!
I guess I am just feeling the pressures of the economy and don't want to be stuck working in the lowest paid fields forever. I want to posess skills and job that is going to take me places. I have been focusing too much time on working full-time and not devoting to much time or effort to my studies. I should get some tutoring, Im sure that would help. I will really push myself next semester and hopefully I will make it into the program.
Thanks again
