I'm trying to get into the RN nursing program but I passed the HESI exam with a score below 80 do you think I will get accepted to the RN program with my HESI score and my GPA is good?

The Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) A2 admission exam is a computerized, multiple-choice entrance exam required by many nursing programs. It's considered an indicator of success in the program.

Every school has its scoring criteria, and the HESI score is weighed differently in your overall application. Some schools may require students to maintain a cumulative score above a certain threshold, usually over 75%. Other schools may specify that students achieve a certain percentage on each subtest they take.

If the program you are applying to is competitive, you will likely need a higher score to stand out from other candidates. Aiming for a robust application is advisable, so if possible, consider retaking the HESI to improve your score.

Retake the HESI

Many students have taken the HESI more than once.

You can retake the HESI after 60 days and not more than three times a year. This is also dependent on individual schools and policies. The best thing to do is consult the admissions department and see if your school allows you to retake it. Then, apply again with a higher score.

Make the most of the time before retesting by reviewing material, completing practice exams, and contacting your admission advisor for extra help and guidance. Focus on the sections where you scored the lowest.

There are online remediation and customized learning plans. Practice tests are an excellent way to prepare. Some excellent HESI prep books, many with online practice components, are available on Amazon. Be sure to read the reviews.

The bottom line is that the HESI score is just one component of your application, along with your GPA, science classes GPA, nursing pre-requisite courses GPA, and possibly even your volunteer work in the community, among other factors, but it is one component you can improve.
