You will need to have a completed set of transcipts before you can start the process. You will need to apply to a state for licensure, and once your credentials are accepted, you will be given permission to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. Once you pass the exam, and get a Visa Screen Certificate, then you are all set as far as working in the US. Since you hold a Canadian paspost, you qualify for the NAFTA TN Visa, meaning that you just need to take the VSC and a letter from your employer to the border and you will be issued a visa that will permit you to work right away.

I never recommend CA for initial licensure for a foreign grad, it will take you four to six months to get approval to sit for the NCLEX exam, and then another three weeks or so to get your results. They will not issue you a license until you have a SSN#, and you will not get that until you are in the US and ready to work.

I went through Minnesota for my initial US license. You can write the NCLEX in any state, regardless of which state you are using for your initial license. This all takes a bit of time though, so you should count on working in Canada for at least a few months after graduation.
