I am doing private duty for a 14 yo girl with leukodystrophy 65 lbs, gets weak fast, who can walk with unsteady gait and is a and o 3 but at a 9 yo level. So please someone tell me why did mom leave her 3 yo active stepson with the 14yo to watch while she went to church. I was angry and told the girl that's he can't watch him, she just got fresh and stated you don't have to watch him I'm watching him(nj state legal age is 13) I esp. Don't like the way mom did it, she just went out the door without telling me. Mom does not speak english but girl speaks both, she could have told her to tell me. Anyway, if something happened to the 3 yo would I have been responsible since I am the adult in the home at that time,, the girl, or mom

You need to set the boundaries and let it be known that if this happens again you will be out the door with or without a call to CPS. Families will attempt to get the nurse to play unofficial babysitter, and will get away with it if the nurse lets them. You have to say no. Best to start looking for a new case if mom does not get the message.
I should mention I found out 15 min after she left that he was th(ere. I was in girls room writing a note while girl was in kitchen with her mom(so I thoght) she doesn't like me to follow her around house so I don't but check on her every 20 min.
The reason I am upset though is because she left him with her 14 yo disabled daughter
Without even telling you what was going on? You didn't know he was in the house and she was gone? Anything could have happened to the child and you didn't even know that he was in the house. And yes, the authorities would have looked to you as the first in line adult, before they looked at the mom. You have to stand up for yourself. And you can expect the mom not to take you seriously, so be ready to make good on your promise to leave the case. This is not worth the potential trouble.
