Can you change schools midway?

Published

Hi all, I am down to my last class for my RN-BSN and hate the school. So much so that I don't think I'll be able to graduate. I plan to get my MSN but wondered if anyone knew if you could transfer now to an RN-MSN program without getting a BSN 1st? and will any RN-MSN programs accept my 'almost BSN' classes?

I know people say I should stick it out but I just can't. The design of this practicum and the teacher have made it impossible to finish at this school but I hate to start over completely.

Any info would really help.

If there is one, I've never heard of it. It's tough enough to transfer pre-reqs most of the time. Nursing schools do not transfer class credits to each other, as they require that you actually take each class through their college and meet their specific recommendations.

I think you're stuck.

You're almost done! You CAN get through it. I have to tell you, being a nurse will find you put in situations you loathe. If you can find the inner strength to push through, you will not regret it. I wanted to quit my first day of clinical many years ago due to a heinous instructor. But I pushed through it and I know you can, too.

Yes, there are colleges who offer a distinct RN to MSN option as opposed to an BSN - MSN. But it will be like starting over. It is something you should really research carefully before making a decision. I would not be surprised if NONE of your nursing classes transferred. The prerequistes and gen ed classes should, though.

If you have one class left you should really just finish the program and then go elsewhere for a MSN. Some programs will allow a transfer of credits, but typically the max allowed to be transferred is 6-9 credits

Thank you for responding. I figured I was stuck in this program. Its just the worst and I didn't realize it til the bitter end.

If you ever hear of any that'll take the transfer classes, I'm all ears.

Trust me I realize I'm almost done but the level of unprofessionalism is deplorable. I really feel that I'm not even going to be able to graduate because of this one professor. She changes her mind on what was expected for each assignment and came right out and said that she doesn't believe in giving people A's unless you go above and beyond what is expected of the class but then her rubric doesn't say what is expected, instead she just dings you points for not being a mindreader. It's stuff like this that has me and others reading to walk away just 3 months from graduation.

I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this though and for responding. If you have any ideas, please post!
