I am looking for a nursing program that I can get into ASAP. I can't go to Apollo's RN program because it is extremley far and unrealistic for me to go there. I don't care if it is a community college or a private program. I was thinking about becoming an LPN and then trying to get into Excelsior RN program but I don't know if that is such a great idea. Can anyone offer some advice please?!
You have to decide what's more important, getting into NS ASAP, or getting into a school close to your house.
Since you mention Apollo, (and since I'm currently a student at Apollo) I can tell you that as a private school, as long as you score in the top 30 scorers of the NET test (I hear it's the HESI test now), you will be accepted. If you were to go to the Apollo RN orientation which I believe they have weekly, you may even be able to start classes by March 2010.
This should apply to most other private schools.
Any other non-private schools like a community college or a university like A will have a multi-year waiting list to get into school and not even into the Nursing program.
Just ask Sweetjen - she knows all about waiting lists.
And take a look at the NCLEX-RN pass rates for all of the AZ schools on the AZBON site:
http://www.azbn.gov/documents/nclex/RN%20NCLEX%20Quarterly%20Reports%20Q3%202009.WEB.pdf
It starts on page 9.

OH I DO, LOL 6 OF MY CLASSMATES WERE WAITING ON THAT MARICOPA RN PROGRAM WAITING LIST FOR 2 YEARS. ITS UNBELIEVEABLE
... i wont even start on asu. lol. student who bypass everything for their rn like the bsn, they just arnt open to the whole levels of the healthcare team. so if the bookworms of asu dont pass the nclex, Sounds normal to me, because its more then getting a 4.0 to get into a nursing program, its the person, the heart of the person, to care for patients. i assume apollo is starting to get those people. ...
Ugghh... sounds like SweetJen has a chip on her shoulder.
