can anyone explain how this works?

ok I posted here before regarding if it is legit for agencies to charge you if you are looking for work. I recently got off the phone with someone telling me that i need to pay $100 upfront for their service or what not and what i found funny is that they never mentioned if that was for the background check or etc. the only agency I tried which is legit but kinda of a let down (reason is because they have yet to find work for me and its been almost 2 months) was towne nursing since they charge you ONLY after you started working they will deduct from your pay check. Recently I have been getting calls but they claim i need to pay upfront. Can someone please explain to me how this works and what I should look out for so i can tell the difference between legit agencies and scammers?

I think anyone that's asking for money is a scam.

Legitimate staffing agencies get their money from the employer side, not the applicant. They get paid by finding a good fit, not by looking in the first place. Find somewhere else. Good luck.

Whenever anyone asks you for money up front that is your tipoff that they are operating a scam. No one needs to pay to obtain a job. There are plenty of employment websites available. There is the employment department. You can always look for work the old fashioned way, by pounding the pavement, resume in hand and dressed to interview.
