Calling all southwest tn comm. College spring 2012 hopefuls!!!

Published

I know it's a bit early, but I intend on applying for the evening/weekends program at SWTCC Spring 2012. I have a gpa of 2.75, 143 on nln, and an A in ap2 and B's in micro and ap1. Is there anyone on here that has been accepted to the program during a spring semester.. heard it's more competitive vs fall sem!!?? What are my chances???:uhoh3: Thanks

Calculations correct would either be a 61.21 or a 61.1?

Got my letter today. FML

That's correct....i came up with 61.1..you should be good...i think mine is a 63.5 or something like that...per aanderson..lowest index score that was taken was 58 something...I emailed mary vines today...she pretty much said if you haven't gotten a letter then your probaly going to hear good news after thanksgiving....thats when they are going to start calling people..Sorry for the people that didn't make it....I know it's hard, but just remember there are other options!!!

Is it an easier to get accepted in the fall? Man this is devastating getting rejected by a community college at my age. Not in love with my options at this point.

Yes, I have heard from several friends who have applied and been accepted that it is easier to get in the fall. They say the Spring is the most competitive because they only accept 60 whereas in the fall they accept 120. Plus they have more apply for the Spring because it is the night program and there are a lot of people working day jobs and going back to school at night. The lowest score accepted changes each time, depending on who applies, but I had a friend who got accept for this fall with a 50.3 index score.

sjmann90 you are correct!! it is alot easier to get accepted during the fall. just remember it all depends on applicant pool. and you do have plenty of options. baptist is one. dyersburg community college has a satelite program in covington, tn. also forest city has a community college. it's only 45min from the bridge. asu jonesboro. northwest has a program. you also have midsouth community college in west memphis, but you do have to become a cna to get in there first. (which is very easy) there are plenty of options out there. don't let southwest be your only option. i applied at baptist also, just in case i didn't get accepted to southwest. baptist costs more, but you can take out loans and get your bsn. don't let the rejection letter get you down. i got rejected last semester because i didn't have but two of the three pre req's finished. i continued to take classes at southwest that would tranfer to my bachelors. do some research, regroup, and keep it moving. happy holidays to all!!!

Don't feel bad!! Southwest's program is very competitive in the spring. So don't beat yourself up. You will get in the next time no matter what you decide. I do know the feeling though. WHen I got rejected for the fall semester last year, I felt so horrible. Keep ya head up.

according to the website, the fall class also has 60 seats. Is that correct?

Wow! I'm not counting my chickens until they hatch! Did Mary say when after Thanksgiving? I'm hoping it'll be at least the Friday or Monday after so they can at least put us out of our misery!

When I applied last semester, the special application said 60 for both Spring and Fall. This time when I applied, the special application said 120 for the fall, and I asked one of the ladies in admissions if that was correct and she said yes. They just haven't updated the amount on the website.

It is 60 for both semesters. When I applied a while ago, the application said 120 and the 2 years I was there it was always 60 students each semester. You need to go ahead and realize that the people you talk to at SW have NO IDEA what they are talking about!!! They do not have the faculty to teach 120 students. It is 2 classes a semester broken down to roughly 30 a class. The numbers dwindle as you get further in the program.

There were only like 20 people that graduated in May, so if there are 120 to start with, that would be really scary!!!

(FYI - I graduated in December with 36. Only 13 of us completed the program on time. In other words, out of 60 only 13 made it without repeating a class. At least 3 or 4 of those did not pass boards so SW will not be reporting a 100% pass rate this year.)

I JUST GOT THE CALL!! :yeah: Good luck to everyone! It's been a long road for me to get here, so don't give up or get discouraged. Your hard work will pay off!!
