Calling all office nurses, educators and reseachers!

Published

Hi. I have enjoyed being a part of this forum for the last couple of months. I am supposed to start nursing school in Jan.

Recently, today, there was a post from a new grad. a few days out who worked in a hospital and stated she had nine pateints to take care of... couldn't keep up, felt that the care she gave the patients was not up to standards since everything was so rushed, she had no breaks.. literally she felt like a chicken with her head cut off and was very disgusted with the whole situation.

Another student getting ready to graduate remarked on that post and stated she sees now how things are in nursing and she feels beat before she even gets out of the gate.

Another poster said "now you see why there is a shortage in nursing."

This post was a real eyeopener. Here is my question... how hard is it to land a job in a docs. office, do research, be an educator, etc.??? I hear in nursing there are numerous opportunities. It seems almost all nurses work in hospitals. Aren't there other avenues to go down?? And how difficult is it to land these jobs?? I do not wish to work in a hospital. I am hoping to work in an office or go on to another path. Am I dreaming here??

Help! I am supposed to start school in Jan.

What would you like to do? I worked in an ICF/MR (Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (god I hate those last two words). After I did that for a few years, I got an office job as a Nurse Consultant for another agency that deals with MH/MR. Hopefully someone else can remeber but there was a few posts on the forum that have asked this same question.

Thanks Markthemalenurse. I want to be a Caridac Nurse. I am a heart patient myself and my docs have encourgaed me to be a nurse. I have a BS already and will going to school to get the BSN. I hope to work for a few years then get my Masters Degree. Cardiac is my thing. I know alot about it already as I am a patient myself and was pre-med in college. That's my niche. I love it and that's what I want to do. I am HOPING my cardiologist will take me on in his office once I graduate. He wrote me a letter of recommendation for school. Keep your fingers crossed! ;)
