First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Second of all, tell us who you are! I can't wait to meet the others that will be attending the program in the spring!
For those of you who applied but don't know yet, GOOD LUCK!
Welcome aboard Spring 2010
No I wouldn't let that scare you. I too applied for Fall 2010 so keep me posted as to your acceptance. I have never heard that before, chances are he is a general advisor. Is he from the nursing dept? I am going for a bachelors but I applied to GPC just to see if i'm accepted. Good luck with everything!!!
Who really knows how they make their choices for admitting? I applied for Fall 2010 and was denied. I have a 3.8 GPA (4.0 in my sciences) and a 77 NET composite score. My good friend also applied, got accepted and says she had a slightly lower GPA than me as well as a slightly lower NET score. So I wish I could figure out what their criteria was. They tell you in the omformation seminars that a 2.7 GPA was competitve (which I kinda knew was false) and that a minimum 65 composite NET score was good, (but again false), so its hard to pin down how to get in. Maybe its a lottery system? maybe its a quota system, meaning so many different races, ages, genders, etc. in order to make it diverse. I wish I knew!!!
Anyone have any insight? I would love to hear it.
I can tell you that my g.p.a was 2.85 or something like that when I first applied to GPC. My NET score was 76. I was accepted. Well, I was unsuccessful in my first semester, got kicked out and asked to reapply. At this point my gpa had dropped to 2.62. I was accepted again!
So, to answer your question. They consider much more than gpa and NET scores. Did I mention that I had about 4 pre-requisites that I hadn't completed by the time I was accepted?
However, I had A's in both my A&P classes. I strongly believe that your science class grades have a lot to do with your being accepted.
Oh, it could be the lottery system too, seeing as my friend had a 3.9gpa and 80 on NET. She was denied twice and asked never to apply again.
It also helps that you don't listen to what so many people have to say. Put in your application, you just never know. Great thing about applying to GPC program is that you don't need recommendations, interviews or history of prior nursing courses elsewhere
Sometimes they let you choose. The Sat/Sunday clinicals are usually avoided y students, so in most cases these are voluntary. Just that the hospitals they are scheduled at, are quite a distance away, like Rockdale, e.t.c.
Alternatively, students can always switch with each other. Something that doesn't work for you, may work for someone else. Two of you just have to inform the course facilitator, and she will take care of it.
Otherwise, clinical sites are assigned randomly. Hope this helps

May I ask you a question? I have applied to GPC's Nursing Program for Fall 2010. I've taken the NET and my GPA is good. I have taken all 3 BIOs, Math, Psych, Eng, Soc, and Speech... I met with an advisor yesterday. He was nice, but he basically gave me the impression that they won't even look at me if I have not completed ALL pre-reqs. Does anyone know if this is true? I'm trying to keep my chin up. I am continuing to take classes now to try to finish them before the program starts. Thank you!
