California nurses

Please help! How much would an RN with 6 years experience make hourly near Los Angeles? Trying to ballpark cost of living.

Hi! I'm a nurse in LA and I have nurse friends all over LA. Like any region, it depends on where in LA. It's a pretty diverse city. I'm trying to figure out how to message you to give you more info but I'm extremely new at this. Could you message me to start it off?

Apparently I can't reply to your message because I need to post at least 15 comments first? So I'm just going to reply here.

The area you mentioned in the PM tends to be the "Beverly Hills of the South Bay," and is one of the more expensive areas of LA. Most people who live there make at least $250 K and usually well above that. I only know one nurse who lives there, and that's because he inherited his ginormous mansion from his very wealthy investor father. If you check out areas in Torrance or Long Beach, they tend to be better priced.

Most nurses in that area tend to make around $45/hour, plus differential, from what I've seen. I work in a hospital around there and the union recently shared a flyer telling us what our hospital and all the other hospitals in the area make. Of course it depends on what your SO makes, but generally the area you mentioned in the PM is a little out of reach for nurses. If you move a little further down the hill to us common folk, I can very comfortably afford my $1500/month 1 bedroom 1 bathroom.

I hope that helps a little! Where are you moving from?

With 6 years experience in Los Angeles you would be making in the $40-50. I really can't tell you exactly because wages vary depending on the area the hospital is in, but that is an average range. As for living expenses, I really would not pay less than $1500 for a one bedroom apartment or studio to be in a safe neighborhood.
