California NP Furnishing Number

Specialties NP

I am wondering if someone could help me here. I was just on hold with BON for 2hrs and got no where!

I to advanced pharmacology in 6years ago but have only been a NP for 3years. Does that mean I have to take Advance Pharm again? If yes any recommendations on where I can take it?

Thank you so much for anyone that is able to help with this question...I am going crazy trying to find the answer.

I took a course through Fitzgerald that met all the requirements that they list but they denied it, saying it had to be an advanced pharmacology course through a college or university NP Program. I cannot find such a course that I can take without be admitted to their program and online. I have lost hours and money on this issue and cannot solve it. I have even asked my congressman for help! I just can't work, which is devastating.

Chris it depends on which Fitzgerald course you took. It may be that you took a course California doesn't accept. The website linked in prior post specifically says California will accept their course. Please take it and resubmit your application and they will accept it.

Thank you, but this is no longer true, apparently. They now have a disclaimer that it cannot be used for initial furnishing number and I contacted them directly to ask and was told this.

The Fitzgerald course is this one: https://www.fhea.com/NP-continuing-education/clinical-pharmacology-for-nps-adv-practice-clinicians/

It literally has everything they say they require. I tried to find out if they would accept it before I took it but was told that I had to submit the application and wait for a discrepancy letter (or approval) to know. I just got the discrepancy letter that says they would not accept it because it is not part of a college/ university program. I even retook the ANCC certification exam to try to satisfy their requirements. I have the FNP license but not the furnishing number.

Tana Bao, did they end up accepting that course for you? The course now states:

This version of our 45-Hour Advanced Pharmacology Course may be used to meet recertification renewal continuing education requirements in the state of California. This course may not be used to meet the initialCalifornia Board of Registered Nursing NP requirements for furnishing/prescriptive authority.

Did you find any courses that they would accept? Why is it becoming increasingly difficult to obtain this license?

No, sadly, I did not. I am professionally handicapped at this point. I am only in proximity to one University in a 200 mile radius and they don't have a nursing program, so it would have to be online. I have not been able to find a school that will let me take just that one class without being admitted to their program. Frankly, most schools charge around $1000 per credit unit and a 3 unit course is required. I cannot afford that as a stand alone. I'm considering a DNP program (not likely to do) or some other career. I had to give up 2 potential jobs because I don't have a furnishing number. I may move out of California! I honestly need to do something but just feel so discouraged.
