I NEED A JOB NOW!!! lol I'm totally willing to move as long as I am still in CA. Does anyone know of any new grad programs that start in the next month or 2 and are still accepting applications??
I feel like its a race against time now...before the next group of new grads hit the scene

I'm in the same boat. I get either its full or were not hiring answer. Worst case scenario, apply for summer program.

UCLA is hiring for summer. I have a phone interview Febraury 19th.
Hi Sarah
I actually just got an email from them saying that I'm on the waiting list and they will call if anything comes up...
so... we'll see.
Best of success to you though!
Did you both apply online or go to the hospital?
Applied online. I live on the east coast.

This is very disappointing. Just like OP, I graduated on December 2008 and I'm still hunting for a job.

I graduated in May '08. and I just found a job. My friend is looking for a job and licensed since July '08. She is still looking. I wish everybody the best of luck. My suggestion now is look into summer programs and start looking now. Because they will start interviews sometime in March, or April. Good luck again!

Go on line and apply for the new grad programs. They are not under the traditional job boards. They might say "intern" or have a special section for new grads. They only have intake session 2 or 3 times a year. Apply now for the summer intake (usually July).
They usually have med/surg positions open. Some of the other more popular areas like the NICU, Maternity or PICU may be filled already. Others like the ED may not take new grads at this time; it requires some experience. Naturally, there are exceptions.
For those of you who have a spring break, I would strongly recommend that you contact prospective hospitals, let them know you will be visiting them and arrange for informational interviews. Then they will have a face with the name and remember you. Sometimes, they have job fairs at the same time, so you can leverage your trip!
At the interview (informal or not), always ask for a business card and send a thank you notes afterwards. Every time you contact them will be another reminder that you are interested in the job. I know it's tough out there, but persistence will pay off. Good luck!

The economy is changing making our future jobs harder to find. I found out that even hospitals are cutting back the number of new grads they are accepting. Hospitals used to hire 10 to 20 new grads, but now they are only hiring half they used to.
I also learned that you can save some money by not getting the IP unless you are for sure to have a position when you get your IP. If you don't, don't bother getting it. I also learned that if you pass your boards then you have one foot ahead of the rest. Also, the more certifications - bls, pals, acls, etc the better at landing the job.
Wishing you all the best of luck!

A question for all of you...if the application process is all online, how do you get into the hospital to show your face and make an impression? I have applied to a few hospitals, and they are ALL online. I plan on going to each hospital on wednesday with a cover letter and resume in hand (they already have them, though!).
Am I basically just telling them how much I would like to be a part of their hospital?
Any suggestions would be wonderful!!
