California diversion

Nurses Recovery

Published

Anyone else about to finish California's diversion program and they sprung on you the requirement of passing narcotics before you can finish? My program is being extended and I have to find a new job because of the corrupt California BRN. Just trying to find other nurses in the program being affected by this. I heard there is a class action lawsuit being started but I can't find information on it.

Yes, this has been increasingly mentioned in public comments at BRN meetings.

The archived meetings can be accessed at https://www.RN.ca.gov/consumers/webcasts.shtml.

I highly suggest you watch the BRN meeting on February 28.

This issue will tentatively be an agenda item discussed at the May BRN meeting.

The public is allowed to attend all open sessions of BRN meetings.

Please share this in your BRN Nursing Support groups and encourage every diversion nurse and support group moderator you know to attend future meetings.

Hi Erin

They did the same thing to me. I was working dialysis and never wanted to go back to the hospital or SNF. I applied to so many places and the only job offer I received was an hour and ten minutes from my home. I was granted transition Oct 23 and my next Dec is Oct 24. I don't believe that they will grant me completion even though I'll have been at the position passing narcotics for 6 months (I'll be 1 week shy actually).

Prior to this position I had been offered one at a different hospital (also an hour away) and was set to start but was turned down once they found out about the worksite monitor requirements.

When I accepted the second job offer in March, all of a sudden I needed approval for access to narcs when I was good to go for the other position.

I'm just so tired of this stupid program. It's so obvious it's all about money!

Maximus's contract is up for renewal in CA for 12 million. They need participants to be renewed and 226 (according to the last BRN meeting) isn't enough or is just the right amount and they need to keep it that way until renewed. They obviously aren't using that money on our recovery. It makes me sick to my stomach!

Maximus took over the recovery program in Montana last year. Nurses are complaining there that the program is punitive, and they hadn't even been hit with the new requirements yet. (not sure if they have)
