California Board of Nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am currently a student in Idaho. I am graduating in May with my ADN. I will be

applying for jobs in California. I heard today that California Board of Nursing can take

up to 6 months to release my licence after I pass the N-CLEX. Has anybody had this problem

and if so, is there any advice you can give me to speed things up?

I moved from New Hampshire to California in August of 2008. I was an RN in NH for about a year prior to moving... so I'm not sure if this affects the amount of time it took for me to get my CA license. I started the application process for my CA license in late June and ended up getting my license in the mail in the middle of July.

Just make sure you get all the materials at once and that you submit them all together. This should speed up the application process. You will need to request some cards from the CA BON to be fingerprinted by your local police department, since you will not be in California to do the LiveScan. Everything else will automatically be sent to you by the BON when you request the application materials... so just make sure you fill out all the forms, get your background check done, and maybe even request the fingerprinting cards ahead of time so you can get everything done at once.

Good luck on the NCLEX! And you will love California :)
