Cal state east bay

Published

Hi everyone,

I've been reading some posts about cal state east bay and i can't really find an answer that answers my concern. For those of you who were recently admitted into the CSUEB nursing program, would you please tell me what your GPA and TEAS test score was? It would be greatly appreciated!

Also, does speaking a foreign language help? I can speak it but not write it (i speak Punjabi). And i do not have work experience but i will be starting volunteering at a hospital soon.

Also, im going to be taking anatomy and chemistry at the same time next quarter, is that good or bad? for those of you who did do that? how did you handle it?

THANK YOU SOO MUCH! :)

CSUEB's work experience must be paid. Volunteer work does not count.

You might be able to get some points for your foreign language. There is a form that you fill out about the language and it asks how well you can speak and write the language. If you can speak it well but not write, you might get some points (maybe 3 out of 5?) but I've never heard a clear answer about that. I would encourage you to learn to write it before you apply!

I took Anatomy and Chemistry at the same time, and the next semester I took Microbiology and Physiology at the same time. It is definitely doable, as long as you know how to manage your time wisely and stay ahead of things. Don't let yourself get behind in class, do your readings. Also, most schools offer free tutoring in the sciences, so take advantage of that if you need to.

The average GPA and TEAS scores vary every year at CSUEB depending on the applicant pool. The level of competition changes each year. CSUEB recommends keeping your GPA as high as possible (I have heard that the average for previous years was around 3.7) and aiming for a TEAS of 90+. Of course, if you have a very high TEAS and a lower GPA, or vice versa, it can even out. Have you read the program website about the "points" system?

Thank you soo much that information was really helpful! :)

What is the point system?

This page has all the information you need. The application process changes each year but this can give you a general idea of what you should be preparing for.

thanks for your interest in our university.

the average teas score the last few years for students who were admitted to csueb nursing was ~88% and perquisite gpa was 3.7.

you can earn 5 bonus points for speaking a language other than english. to earn the points, you need to turn in our specific langauge proficiency form (available on our pre-licensure program link where we also have the online application). it is possible to earn the bonus points if you are fluent in speaking a language, but do not write the language.

we do not give any bonus points for volunteer experience, only for paid work experience.

most of our students here do take 2 science courses at a time during their first year of prerequisites (chemistry and anatomy are only offered certain quarters). there is a nursing roadmap on the csueb college of science website that gives the general sequence for a pre-nursing student at csueb.

just make sure you don’t overload too much and have time to study/earn good grades in the required prerequisite course, since gpa makes a big difference and there is a point deduction for any retakes.

many of these questions are answered at our monthly advising sessions, with dates and times listed at the following link: http://www.sci.csueastbay.edu/nursing/advising.html

Thank You!

However, i have one more question. Do i have to take the Teas test test at cal state east bay? or can i take them at a community college near me and send that score to you?? is there a certain procedure for that?

You can take the TEAS when our Testing Department offers them. Please visit http://testing.csueastbay.edu/nursteasdates.asp or call 510-885-3661. If you need special testing arrangements because of a disability, contact the Student Disability Resource Center at (510) 885-3868.

If you're going to apply at CSUEB, you might want to consider taking TEAS @ CSUEB. I think you can take TEAS anywhere & have your score sent to almost any school. But you might be required to sent through atitesting.com, which will cost you $20 per request. I took mine @ CSUEB & they were able to retrieve my score without me paying.
