How many carbs are in each meal and snack in an 1800 cal ada diet? I have spent many hours researching this on the internet and multiple books. Please HELP, is there a web site anyone can help me with? The only information I have found says that there are 55-60% of carbs allowed each day? I would appreciate any help!!!!!!

There is no such thing as an 1800 cal ADA diet. They stopped making those specific recommendations back in the early 90s. A 1800 cal diet generally allows two carbohydrates for breakfast, and three carbohydrates for lunch and dinner. No sweets are on that diet and choice of juice is limited. The ADA recommendeds up to 43 grams of charbs at each meal for a physicially active individual.

Hope this helps.

When I was working on my diabetes case study, I went to the dietary office at the hospital I was doing my clinical and asked for any information they have on ADA diet.

If you figure 60 grams of carbs x 3 meals per day and 2 snacks of 30 grams each you will get approximately 240 grams of carbs. 1 gram is 4 kcal of energy so that comes out to 240 x 4 = 960 calories. That is a little less than 60% of 1800 and is the most frequent carb-count ordered in our facility.

On an 1800 calorie consistent carbohydrate diet at my workplace, a patient would get:

4 Carbs for breakfast

4 Carbs for lunch

4 Carbs for dinner

2 Carbs for HS

(where 1 Carb = 15 grams carbohydrates)

I have a neighbor who was just told she is diabetic. Does anyone know where I can get menu plans for her to follow??
