CA NCLEX eligibility expire July 2010,how to endorse result to any NLC state if pass?

Published

I've been back reading but have not come up with sufficient answers. Hope someone can help me with my predicament.

I have an active NCLEX application in CA and my eligibility is due this July 2010. I'm planning to sit the exam. If ever I pass how can I endorse my NCLEX results to any Compact States to get a license (I am interested to apply in either Texas or Arizona)? All I see here is taking the Vermont route, and Vermont is not included in the NLC (Nursing Licensure Compact). Is there a way for me to apply for a license directly in any state with NLC by asking CA to endorse my passed NCLEX test result? Or is it better for me to let my July 2010 CA eligibility expire and apply for eligibility to test directly in any state included in NLC?

Thank you to your future replies.

Are you already in the US with a valid work or immigrant visa? I presume not and therefore going for a compact license is moot because you do not meet requirements. If you do not have a permanent residence in a compact state then any license, as far as I am aware, will be a single license and will not state on it NLC. CA will not issue a license without a SSN (this has been discussed numerous times as has compact states) therefore you do not have a license to endorse and generally have to apply to another state via license by exam and then arrange for CA to forward NCLEX results.

Thank you silverdragon for the reply.

Sorry for supplying insufficient data about my query. I am a foreign trained nurse presently residing in Philippines. I was not aware that permanent residence/work or immigrant visas are required to get a license in any Compact States. I do know though that CA requires SSN for it to issue a license, that is why I am thinking of applying for licensure to either Texas or Arizona but they are included in the Compact State. Do you mind answering few remaining questions I have?

a. The reason I had for taking the exam only now (I applied 2008) was to buy myself time from having my test results(assuming I passed)/VSC/file etc expire due to the on-going retrogression. I feel there is no rush in taking the NCLEX but now it is inevitable. Applying in CA was a mistake since it does not give a license even if you pass the test, and NOW they are asking SSN number just to take the exam so I plan to ace the NCLEX (so as not to waste my present CA application, and thank God I am not included in the new ruling) then apply in either Texas or Arizona for licensure. Do they give out license without SSN? I just want to keep my files active and not get destroyed like in CA. I do not prefer to apply in Vermont for the reason that I do not want to practice there. Texas and Arizona are my second choices since I have friends and relatives living there aside from CA. Is Vermont the only state that gives out license without SSN that's why people are applying there? If that is the case, I do not mind applying just to keep my files active.

b. Is it better to go ahead with my NCLEX exam under my CA application and have my results endorse by CA to the states I am interested to apply in via exam (in my case Texas or Arizona) THAN let my present CA eligibility expire then go ahead in applying for licensure via exam directly to the state I want? Are their jurisdiction more lenient unlike CA?

Again, thank you for explaining things to me.

Check with the BON websites but I know AZ required documentation that you are in the US legally with immigrant or work visa before they will issue a license. There are actually a few states that now do this however CA is the only one that destroys the file so even if you go to a state that doesn't issue license your NCLEX results should be safe as long as you don't let the file lapse (ie meet renewal requirements like CEU's)

I would suggest go ahead and sit NCLEX with CA and then apply to new state under license by exam and then arrange for results to be forwarded to new state. Regardless you will still need to meet requirements for foreign trained

Thank you silverdragon! You are a big help here in allnurses as always. More power to you!

hi.. you guys have a sample letter of request of candidate report to be sent to the CA BON?i just need it badly coz ill be endorsing my license to VT and it ll be expiring soon. i dont know the format or content of the letter.

thank you very much

My License application will also expire this September 2011 so I decided to inquire directly with the CA BON. I hope this will help you.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have done some research regarding my questions and have read some

conflicting/confusing info so I thought it would be more logical and reliable if

i asked directly from your office.

I passed the NCLEX and received a letter saying that I should provide an SSN in

order to complete the licensing process. However, I have not been able to

provide that until now since I have not been able to legally work there yet. My

file number is ***** and the letter says my application will expire on

September 2011. These are my questions.

1. If I will be able to get an ITIN, will this be acceptable as a "temporary

replacement" to the SSN?

2. If not, will the destruction of my file mean that I have to take the exam

again? Or does it apply only to "my application" to California?

3. If my file is destroyed, can I still get an Exam Verification if I decide to

endorse it to another state?

I hope you will be able to enlighten me on this matter so I can decide on my

next course of action. Your response will be highly appreciated.

And this is their reply.

1. ITIN's do not meet our requirements and are unacceptable for use on applications or for permanent licensure.

2. As of today’s date, we will retain exam results and they will not be destroyed. Once you have obtained a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) and wish to reapply at a later date, you would need only to submit application requirements.

3. You may submit a written request for a copy of your NCLEX Candidate Report with photo. The fee is $10.00.

If you have other questions, you may email them at this address [email protected].

Hi everyone,

I know this topic is long been issued already. My plan was all set to endorse my license to vermont. Cgfns just mailed my ces report to vermont for endorsement but when i visited their website it says there that they now requiring ssn. I'm a bit lost right now. I hope you can help me what will be my next action. Im trying to email the above shown address but i cannot send message. When i've read iamchyna's response to the query, i'm having hope again that somehow i can save my exam result to ca. but as i've read some of the forums some of the ca-bon response was very contradicting.
