I wanted to let fellow nurses know that it is possible to get a letter of public reprimand with prior convictions from the CA BRN. My story is a little different from the recent posts I've seen so I'll provide a brief summary. I have a few convictions from over 10 years ago, which were prior to me obtaining my nursing license. One factor that I think helped me was that I am an experienced nurse (years of experience prior to obtaining a CA license). I fully disclosed the convictions, provided everything the board asked of me, and although it was a long process I finally got a license without probation just a public reprimand. Don't lose hope, keep trying and provide what they ask of you and most importantly be honest about your situations. Feel free to PM or ask questions if needed.

Hi,
Congradulations on getting your CA license!
I was wondering if you could share a little bit about how looking for a job with the public reprimand went for you? I also just recived a license with a public reprimand and am relieved that the process is over but nervous to start the job hunt. Did you disclose at interview before it was brought up? Was it an issue with HR? I'm an experienced nurse at this point and feel like I have a good resume except for this minor detail...it was a very minor mistake that happened many years ago... the thought of it haunting me for the rest of my career still daunts me! I would love to hear any insights on how it went looking for a job in CA.
Cheers and congrats again!
