Wondering.. I am a labor and delivery nurse and want to learn to scrub. We have to to the periop on AORN, and that is fine. Do other L/D nurses learn from other nurse or scrubtechs.
Are your OB scrub techs professionally trained scrubs, and who should I be learning this skill from to be professionally and legally trained? In this specialty there are so many law suits!! Justwant to learn the right way?

We have a couple RNs who are able to scrub (but very rarely do unless we don't have a scrub tech on, or are doing two cases at once and only have one tech). The ones that know how were either around back when our hospital had nurses scrub regularly, or were trained to scrub at another hospital before coming to work with us. A couple of our scrub tech/PCAs are formally trained and are certified scrub techs (took the 2 year program), but most were just trained on the job with an experienced tech.
At our hospital they don't teach nurses to scrub, but if they started for some reason, I would honestly rather learn from one of the techs. They are the ones who are doing it all the time, while the RNs that scrub on my unit do it once in a blue moon and probably don't know all the ins and outs like our techs do.

When I learned, I was taught by the surgical scrub techs on my unit, who were all certified. They were great.
