C in Chemistry, Should I retake?

This was my first semester back in college after 15 or so years. My final grade is a C, I was looking for opinions . . . should I retake it? I really didn't get it, I don't think I'm chemistry minded which worries me, if I can't grasp chemistry what are my chances at succeeding in nursing school.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

There is one part of chemistry that's really helpful in nursing: the dimensional analysis - it is the basis for calculating medication dosages.

But I would only retake it if you need the grade to get accepted.

I agree with AC, if you don't need a better grade in Chem to get into the nursing program no way would I retake it. FWIW my only C was in chemistry and I was dang thankful to get it, lol. I'm in my last semester of an ADN program and my gpa is 3.5 so you will do fine in nursing.

I "got" the dimensional analysis thing, it was the other stuff that I had a hard time with . . . I guess maybe because it was so abstract. I just couldn't get my head around it.

Before you retake...or not retake...you may want to check the admissions policy of the school you are applying to. Many schools put a time limit on science courses, and often won't accept them if they were taken more than 5-10 years ago. Usually this time limit applies more towards the bio courses than chemistry, but each school varies, so you should find out.

That being said, if your school will take your C from 15 years back, then don't bother to retake the class--you've got enough to worry about with all the other pre-reqs.

If you do have to retake because the class is too old (or they don't want the C), get the Barron's Chemistry the Easy Way guide to help you out. Actually, get it anyway--it'll help you with any basic chem issues you may have in NS.

It's ultimately your decision, but I got C's in every chemistry class I took (except for one B) and I still got into pharmacy school. Barely, but I did.
