Dear Burned Out,

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling burned out in your current role as a circulator nurse. There are many other career options that don't involve direct patient care, and I'd be happy to suggest just a few for you to consider.

Nurse Educator You could teach at a college or university, or provide training and education to new hires at a hospital or other healthcare facility.

Documentation Specialist  You would ensure that patient records accurately reflect the care provided by healthcare professionals and meet legal and regulatory requirements.

Vendor/Equipment Nurse Educator With your background in surgery, you could work as a nurse educator for a vendor and serve as a resource on specialized equipment.

Risk or Quality You could work in Risk or Quality on a variety of quality improvement projects, regulatory compliance, and risk management.

Nurse Administrator You might consider nursing management, starting with Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager

Infection Prevention Your organizational skills as a circulating nurse and knowledge of sterile technique could be transferable to an Infection Prevention role.

Nurse Writer or Editor Start a side gig. If you enjoy writing, you could work as a freelance writer or editor, creating content for healthcare publications, websites, or other media.

Nurse Navigator You could work as an advocate for patients, helping them navigate the healthcare system, understand their rights, and access the care they need.

These are just a few examples of non-patient care roles that may interest you. It's important to take the time to explore your options and find a role that aligns with your skills, interests, and values.
