Burlington County College-waiting for RN program?

Published

Hi! I was told today by an academic counselor that the wait to get into the nursing program is 2 years and once I do my pre-requ's it may make more sense to try to transfer to a 4 year university and get a BSN. Did anyone who is in the program or completed it had to wait 2 years?

There isn't a 2 year wait for the program...not sure why someone would have told you that. Each admission cycle is a "fresh start". There is a new wait list each fall or spring admission and once that class begins everyone who was on that wait list has to reapply for the next admission cycle and a completely new wait list is created for those that are not accepted to that cycle.

Perhaps they meant that it could take you 2 years to complete all of the pre-req's prior to being accepted into the program...that would be more accurate. I am currently waiting to hear if I am accepted into the Fall 2011 program, I have all of my pre-req's done. I am under the impression if you have all of your pre-req's done and meet the other requirements you are more likely to be accepted than someone who has not completed all of their pre-reqs.

I hope that helps clarify things a bit for you. As far as a BSN instead of going to BCC, there aren't many schools in our area that offer a BSN...especially affordable ones. I am married and have a daughter and commuting is also an issue for students like myself so BCC not only has a great program, it is cost effective and works with my life. I plan to continue on for my RN-BSN once I graduate BCC (if I get in!! lol!). I do think getting your BSN is the right thing to do but doing it this way works best for me for various reasons and from what I understand there are a lot of other people who feel the same, it all depends on what is best for your life.

You might want to call the nursing department directly to get your information being it seems the information you got isn't exactly right. Best of luck to you whatever you decide to do!!

Thank you so much for responding. That's what I was thinking, a 2 year wait to get into the program? I don't think so. Honestly either she didn't know what she was talking about or just felt to give me her spin on things. I really don't have $$ to spend on a universtity. This definitely fits better into my life. I should be finished my pre-req's by the december if I go this summer as well. I was thinking I could apply for Fall 2012 I guess.

No problem! If you finish in December you will be in the same boat I'm in right now. I finished in December with all of my pre-req's and am just waiting to hear if I'm accepted to start this fall (stalking my mailbox daily!!!), so unless something has changed that I am unaware of for future classes that is the way it's always worked in recent years. Like I said, call the nursing department directly with specific questions. I've found them very nice and helpful when I had questions. I've been given wrong information from other areas of the college in the past...which is why I went straight to the source after being confused!! :) Best of luck to you!!

I have a question, did you finish the microbiology lecture and labs before applying? Are the labs dissections performed on parts/animals or the computer?

Hi! I saw your private message, not sure why but it wouldn't let me respond to you directly so this was my only way of answering without ignoring you, sorry! Yes, I finished all pre-req's as of December. I applied in the fall but they want to see all pre-req's complete by the end of the fall semester that you apply in, nothing should be left for the spring semester in the school year that you apply in order to have the best chances I was told, hope tjta helps to answer your question.
