Does anyone know what the difference between bumex and lasix is?

An internal medicine physician once explained to me that Bumex has a nearly 100 percent bioavailability compared to Lasix. Therefore, Bumex is the more potent medication of the two diuretics.

Generally, well almost exclusively, Bumex (over Lasix) is only indicated for pt with healthy Kidney functions. It is 40 times stronger, after all. The reason is, while a healthy Kidney cant push an overload of fluids from edema fast vs under normal fluid circumstances, a malfunctioning kidney does even worse. And Bumex helps keep otherwise compromised kidney functions from worsening.
Bumex doesnt really prevent hperkalemia at all, other than it really forces the well functioning Kidneys to rid of K. In fact, if not checked at least daily, Bumex can cause hypOkalemia quite readily. Dosage adjustment is key for individual pt needs and variances.
Loop diaertitecs are ore for geting rid of more than prevention of. To prevent high K, proper calcium can help - and a push of Clacium is certainly necessary during hyperkalemia.
Hydration and electrolyte balances are the key to almost everything human, ya?
