Bullying on the job?

Nurses General Nursing

I'm a CNA thinking of going into psychiatric nursing, but I worry of bullying. I got really turned off from working in healthcare due to the "teamwork" aspect so I turned away from it. I put it in quotation marks because it never seems to be a real team. I got bullied a lot by coworkers when I first started as a CNA, and I worry it may be the same fate for me working as a nurse. It would be a shame to invest so much time and money into graduating from a nursing program just to not like it.

Does anyone else get bullied? What do you do?

I attempt to deal with any problem with Co-workers or Peers directly. If that attempt produces inadequate results, I take the problem up the Chain of Command. Years ago, a Peer was not kidding when they punched me in the back, hard. I confronted them privately and let them know my feelings. The Peer apologized and said, "It will never happen again". That was good enough for me. We've worked together for several years with no further problems. Teamwork takes the desired involvement and commitment of each and all of its members.

Sorry about the typos and double post. My computer is acting up tonight.

Initially I would have akined my first year to a sorority hazing! I got through it though and never looked back. I can say that it reinforced my values of treating others as I would want to be treated and helped shape how I wanted to precept and lead others when I finally became a more experienced nurse. Only you can decide if being a nurse is worth it to you to maybe have a similar experience when starting out or switching nursing jobs. It was a no-brainer for me!
