There is a scrub tech that takes every opportunity to micromanage me in front of OR staff during a case. She also goes to the manager and tells lies about me with the goal of undermining my work and abilities. She seems to have their support. What can I do?
The first OR I worked in was well run. The techs, I don’t know “knew thier role” (I don’t like that phrase). The majority of them were well trained and when not scrubbed In were great at assisting me with getting things and helping me with running for stuff. The management supported us nurses. The local school ran a great program and served as a pipeline for us to ‘test drive’ new techs.
When I moved on to other facilities, I was sadly shocked to find out that I was in a little bubble. The real world was nothing like that. Much of it was like shodobe describes. I have had to develop that backbone over the years. Don’t do me. Get that backbone now!!!
Hello, am hoping for some advice kinda related to this topic.
Started a new job less than 2 mos ago at an ASC, OR RN with 14 yrs experience. It's small. And there is a clique..... run by a Scrub tech with 2 other ST and an OR RN and (of course!) the manager (who had moved up the ladder).
I'm very conscientious about patient care, I don't rule the room with an Iron Fist I'm a team player, help whenever I can, give respect and kill them with kindness to every one.
But this one girl is such a #*(@%! Mean, Eye-rolling ( esp. when you want to count), ignores you but talks behind your back/make fun of you kinda person. Why? She doesn't even know me but does everything she can to do her own thing and make sure I'm excluded from the "Club". Don't get me wrong...... I don't want to be part of that club.... I just want to be respected as a fellow employee. How do i get that done? (PS remember the manager is a "good friend of hers")

42 years as an OR nurse, now thankfully retired . My respect for the MAJORITY of techs has plummeted over the years. I remember a time where RNs scrubbed all cases and circulated and there was no such thing as a scrub tech. The ONLY reason they were ever brought into the OR was to save money and that was it! They are a one dimensional person who can only do one thing, scrub and not very well at times. They have to remember who is in charge of the room and that is the circulator, or has that pretty much gone down the drain? Get a back bone and exert yourself and stand up for what you know is right. Management will always look out for themselves and those who will kiss their backside and not for the staff who matter the most, THE NURSES
