BSN-To-DNP Fall 2015

Published

Hey guys,

I'm just interested to chat with others who are applying to dnp programs for summer or fall 2015 (or any graduate program really). I'm finally ready to apply, I should finish my RN-to-BSN program at WGU (after a brief Term Break) in March or April 2015.

Questions....

1.) What school(s) are you applying to?

2.) What focus is your DNP? (APRN, Leadership, education?)

3.) Full-time or part-time?

4.) What are you looking forward to most?

5.) Do you have any ideas for you DNP project?

6.) What is your practice Background (if applicable)?

7.) What type of setting/specialty would you like to work in after finishing your DNP?

Ill Go First:

1.) Frontier Nursing University (My dream school):MSN + Companion DNP and UNC-CH: BSN to DNP (also a good option and instate for me!)

2.) looking for preparation as a APRN: FNP.

3.) I am pursuing Full-Time study and hopefully a TA (teaching assistant) or RA (Research Assistant) position.

4.) I'm looking forward to the office procedures/clinical skills (suturing and such) and getting to work on y Doctoral project idea.

5.) I really want to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients utilizing convenient care modalities (such as retail clinics, mobile clinics, remote provider visits, and son telehealth practices) and identify their potential (or factual) to increase access to care in rural and underdeveloped communities and how they can be better implemented into those communities.

6.) I am a CVICU nurse with a little over 1.5 years of experience.

7.) I think I would love to work on a Mobile Clinic in a rural area, one day or Retail Health. An urgent care office would be something I imagine I might like doing as well.

I welcome any helpful/beneficial advice from those who are/have been down this road through graduate school.

Hello everyone!

I am also applying for BSN to DNP program Fall 2015.

db2xs, I see that you're top choices are Rush University and George Washington University. I also applied to theses schools. I don't really have an idea which one of the two is best?

My number 1 choice was Duke University but I didn't get in in the interview but just a waitlist, which really made me sad. :( But I heard that this university is also expensive so I kinda have mix feelings about it. Lol.

Hope we all get accepted in the universities that we like! :)

Oh yeah. Duke is very very expensive. I went to an info session after moving to the area an it was great! The campus was gorgeous the staff were awesome the session was so well put-together, but then they answered the questions about the price and I almost had an MI.

I'm talking well over $78,000.00 for an APRN MSN program. If I remember correctly that was just for tuition and school fees. #nothanks

Hello PatMac10, RN!

When did you go for the info session? I went to one of the info session in Sept 2014 too.

So Duke just emailed me today and said that I was chosen for the interview. I am pretty happy about it but I'll have to weigh my options whenever I get the decisions from all the schools I've applied to.

Are you gonna apply to for MSN or DNP? If yes, what school are you planning to go?

Thanks! :)

I think that's the one I went too. It seems like they only have a few big info sessions a semester. It was the one where they gave you a bag and personalized name tag right? (That was so awesome I still have mine). They really make you feel like an accepted student in orientation at those info sessions. I would advise any nurse to go to a Duke info session just for the experience. lol! Top of the line!

That's awesome that you got an interview!!! Although Duke is very expensive, in my opinion, I can honestly see why people pay so much to go there. What focus are you applying for? They invest so much into their students; that fact truly shined at the info session.

I sm applying for DNP at UNC Chapel Hill and Frontier and another nc state school.

Yes I still have my bag, folder and name tag too! It was pretty awesome.

Hope you get accepted to those schools that you applied to! Keep me updated.

:)

I just attended the UNC chapel DNP info session. They had 100 BSN to DNP applicants for the fall 2015. They are accepting 5 for psych.

I applied to psych.

Not sure what to think.

I hope the best for you!!! When I heard the amount of people they projected they were taking I got nervous, but all we can do is suffer through this horrible wait til April. Does anyone remember if they said they would send out decisions at the beginning of April or middle? (For UNC) I can't remember.

They didn't say anything about the decisions.

I have a back up school.

But good lord... If people wanna go to grad school and they meet the criteria... then they should be able to go.

I'm going to apply to every school that exists in the country that has a BSN to DNP PMHNP program. I will not give up. Ever.
