i posted this in the or forum as well and someone directed me over here...
hi,
i am new here and i have some questions; this seems like the most helpful place to find answers! i am a bsn student and i am interested in working the or when i am done. i am specifically interested in going on the be a nurse anesthetist but that will be a while down the road.
can anyone tell me how to approach getting into an or after graduation? do i need specific training, an externship maybe, etc.? also, when i look online for jobs what am i looking for, is it med-surg or will it say specifically or?
as you all can tell i am still such a virgin to all of this! i start my nursing courses this upcoming semester and then i will have a clue!
also, does anyone have comments about being a crna? are the jobs scarce? i haven't been able to find even one online. if you are a crna, how is your job satisfaction and what types of shifts, etc. do you work?
thanks for all of your help!

Hey
You should look into ICU as OR experience isnt accepted for CRNA school.
here is a link to read about the reqs.

I agree. You definitely need ICU experience. You can look at www.crnajobs.com or www.gaswork.com for crna positions available.
Hi,
Thanks! I am so excited about this all. I would love ICU as well. Would NICU be acceptable or would it be more appropriate to work with all ages so that I might experience a broader knowledge base?
How the shnikees am I gonna pay on my consolidated BSN private loans while I am in CRNA school if I can't work? Eeeekkk!!! Can I pull some weekends?
I love the school I am at, the fast track program is very intense and requires you to maintain an 85 (B+) in all courses at all times... hopefully this will look nice on my application?
My sciences are okay, micro=A, a&p I&II = B's, Chem = C+, Stats=A...
should I think about retaking my chem class and maybe taking a physics class to prepare?
Thanks again!
