Need some guidance
Jenny, What school did you apply to? I was just wondering because I also live in Tennessee and I have applied for next year.

Early Interview!
newkarian, Do you live in Nashville? If so, where do you work? I have also applied to MTSA. The only thing that they have said is to study your drugs. Good luck with your interview.

MTSA anyone??
TNSN, I am waiting to hear about an early interview at MTSA. Are you doing the same? I was told that they reviewed applications on October 10th. I don't know how quickly we will find out what they decided. I will let you know if I hear something!

CRNA school with children
I am also pursuing CRNA school and I have a 10 month old daughter. This has always been my dream and I do not think that I should have to give it up because I have a child. This is also going to allow me to better provide for my family. Yes, it would have been easier if I had not had her first but I guess that is not the way that it was intended to be. My husband realizes the responsibilities (all of them) that he will be assuming when I get in school. I also wonder, if I were a man would this be an issue? If my husband was pursuing this career and I was the one staying at home and taking care of our daughter I guarantee you this would not be an issue. Some women just don't want to be stay at home moms. I don't think that is wrong. But, I do have a great deal of respect for those moms that do stay at home. I think that is just as hard if not harder than most careers. Look at the number of residents, male and female, that have children before they are finished. CRNA is much shorter than most medical school programs.

How long did you study for CCRN?
I had 4 years of nursing experience. 3 of which were ICU.

How long did you study for CCRN?
I studied for a couple of months off and on and then studied really hard the week before the test. I used the book by Laura Gasoeris Von Frolio. My work also had one of her tapes which was extremely helpful. I also used a book call Critical Care Certification. It was very helpful, especially with cardiac and pulmonary. I also did not think the test was as bad as everyone said, but I also felt like I was prepared for it. Good Luck!

CCRN or not?
I am also in the process of applying to anesthesia school and I was told that it was not required but it was recommended. I thought that it couldn't hurt to try. I took it last week and passed it. I agree that it is a good was to assess the critical thinking skills that are used in critical care.

PASS CCRN! question about questions
I am taking the CCRN Exam tomorrow and I wanted to know if anyone had any last minute advice. I have been studying so much that I am dreaming about this stuff at night. I am still not doing great on the practice tests though. I guess we will see how it turns out tomorrow!:uhoh21:

Good Luck!!!! I know that you are going to be very successful and exceed even your expectations! Let me know how it is. I have sent in my application and I am taking the CCRN exam next Thursday. Wish me luck and good luck to you! (But you don't need luck- you are brilliant!)

What you wish you would have known...
I agree that leaving my comfort zone to purse anesthesia is definitely intimidating. I also am amazed by the number of things that I didn't know as I am currently studying for my upcoming interview. I have been a nurse for over 4 years, 3 of which have been in the ICU. For instance, I know that increased PEEP causes hypotension but I haven't ever really thought about how. As I study more and more I frequently think, I should have known that!
