  1. lisa - i would strongly recomend consulting your 'house' counsel so you are covered by them if there were ever any complications. you don't want to be left out to 'dry' if the pt's family comes back at you. don't put your scope of practice too thin as to screw yourself if deposed.
  2. Some great stuff here. But we are digressing from my OP. I am not recomending letting idiots into nursing school. However, if the choice is between a man and a woman with all the same numbers would'nt the logical decision be to admit the man to increase the overall population of men in nursing? Hmm...
  3. Who is the instructor? I may have taken him/her and know thier style.
  4. Perhaps your Aunt is upset because she feels she is too OLD to pursue graduate school??? Hmm....

Go to the E.D.! You will see a great spectrum of health care all meeting head on. "Level One", is an accreditation bestowed by the American College of Surgeons. Basically, it means an E.D. can "handle" specific types of surgical emergencies. Having certain Surgeons/Specialists either in-house or within a specific on-call distance away.
  6. *bump*
  7. My Father is an M.D., and while living in San Francisco to "moonlight" he worked at Folsom. They gave him a book which he has forwarded to me after he left the Cal.D.O.C. titled: "Games Criminals Play: How you can profit by knowing them." By Bud Allen, MSW (a former Cal.DOC Lt. w/ 27 years) ISBN: 0-9605226-0-3 He has told me much of what has been posted already. Nothing flashy. My Father always dressed "down" for a physician. But once he made an abcent mined mistake of wearing a really nice watch and one of his patients saw it and the news that the 'Doc' was wearing it spread like wild fire! Just a P.S.- the information you recieved from your Brother-in-law who is a Police Officer may be limited. ONLY Correctional Officers spend protracted amounts of time with inmates and can really provide serious insight. I have been told that it can be very rewarding work. My Father had the gentle influence to put the seed of interest in the heads of discharged inmates to see the value of healthcare as a career. Two of his former patients went out and became medical assistants. So remember you have an influence just beond providing pt. care, you can council as well. Good Luck!
  8. When you phrase the question to the search committee about salary, and you want to include other educators at the institution in the Departments of Biology, Journalism, or English, just remember to ask them how many of these Profs have devoted years and money to obtaining a Ph.D. As the brother of an Ivy league educator, I can report that that, 'D', after their names increases thier salary.
  9. Just something to think about... Decades ago when women were under-represented in allopathic medical schools the "medical community" got together and decided to make their medical school classes reflect the society in which they practice. (Affirmative action) The "medical community" has made great strides in this effort. My question/curiosity/concern is why if RNs are presently comprised of only 6-7% men, and the "nursing community" is {really} interested in more men choosing a career in nursing then why don't nursing shcools do what medical schools chose to do DECADES ago and make their graduating classes reflect the society in which they practice? Hmmm... Any thoughts or ideas please feel free to "ring in".
  10. Thank you Kitty that is why I also used the quotes in my original post on this thred.
  11. Just to make certain: This is a Connecticut thred.
  12. None of the CRNA schools in my area require the CCRN for application. Are there any CRNA Profs out there who feel it should be a prerequisite to apply to a CRNA program? Thanks.
  13. I am contemplating CRNA school. I am curious which area of Crit Care CRNA schools look at most favorably? Medical / Surgical / Coronary. Thanks.
  14. In my area there is already a difficulty finding MSNs & PhDs to teach the ASN & BSN programs... Who the heck are "they" going to have as faculty for these DNP programs???? There is a saying... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
