BSN student with a baby

Hi, my name is Sara and I was recently accepted into a BSN program after completeing a year of pre-nursing classes. My second year will start this fall, and I recently found out that I'm pregnant! I have heard that most nursing schools kick students out who become pregnant because they have to take time off. I will have to take a quarter off to have the baby and recover. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice...should I let them know right away that I'm expecting, or just take classes on schedule until I need to take time off. Also, should I expect to be kicked out or will they work with me since I have been accepted into the program? I'm really nervous about what is going to happen, and it would be helpful to know what to expect.

I don't think they would kick you out, wouldn't that be discrimination? I've heard about a lot of pregnant women going through nursing school just fine!

I was pregnant when I took me pre-req. and than took a semester off, now Im after my first semster and starting clinicals in September, you can do it and they cannot kick you out, congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck, keep us posted!

your school cant kick you out because you are pregnant. they can dismiss you if you miss too much time from class/clinicals.

i recently gave birth to my 1st daughter 4/28. i was still in class/clinicals. i didnt take time off for school because i am deteremined to graduate on time. it was tough, but i made it through.

i think you are wise for planning to take time off, because its better to take the semester off than have to drop.

congrats on your pregnancy and good luck with school

ps... you dont have to tell your school about your pregnancy

Thank you everyone for the responses. I made an appointment with my academic advisor today...I am just going to go ahead and explain my situation and hope that they work with me. If they decide to dismiss me I have other plans of going to a two year program next fall. I'm hoping for the best, and I know things will work themselves out. :)

Also, In my original post I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm not excited about the pregnancy! My ficance and I are completely excited and can't wait to have our baby. Babies really are miracles and I thank God for this.
