BSN, RN graduate internships available?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Is there a central resource (website) where hospitals advertise internships for newly graduated BSN (RN's). Or does one have to do the leg work themselves and call individual hospitals to enquire.

I'm concerned about graduating in May 2009 and not being able to find a job due to lack of experience. I live in the Boston area and want to at least have the knowledge on how to tackle getting a job or graduate internship in a field that I may be interested in, rather than settling for, say a nursing home, which I have no interest in.

Thanks,

Paul

Since you're asking about a specific region, I'll move this post to the Mass. forum where locals can tell you what it's like in Boston.

More than likely you'll be invited to job fairs, nursing assocations, etc. so go to these and hone in on new grad programs. Almost all hospitals hire new grads and have some sort of policy for orientation, so I would relax.

Like Tweety said, almost all hospitals hire new grads and have new grad programs where you have extensive orientation, classes, and preceptorship for a few months. If you go to hospitals' websites, usually there are specific new grad positions to apply for online. At most places, you can start applying and interviewing as early as January for positions for May graduates. A good option is to get a job at a hospital as a PCA or nurses aide while in school if possible. It's a good way to get your foot in the door and make some connections, and a lot of times the floor will hire you on as an RN when you graduate. Ask around at the facilities you do your clinicals at too. It can be very competitive landing a new grad position in the Boston area so it's good to think ahead!
