BSN or ADN

I have just finished my pre-nursing classes and am poised to begin the nursing core of classes. I have applied to both the University of Arizona and Pima Community College. I am accepted at Pima and most likely will be at the University. This is my delemma - shall I go to the community college part time and emerge in two years with an ADN or shall I attend the university full time and emerge with my BSN. My interest at present is L & D, but long term goal is administration. The question is 0f course is money. Will the BSN (which will require that I attend school full-time and recieve larger student loans) pay for it self in the long term. Will I be very sorry if I don't pursue the BSN? What do you think?

I can only tell you what I would do.

If I were a young person I would definitely get my BSN as it is where the profession is (I hope) going in the future. And if you want to get into administration then you (in my opinion) would be foolish not to get your BSN.

I went to nursing school at the age of 40. I decided that I should get my BSN because it was hard enough for me to find time and energy to go the first time. I did not think that I would go back to get my BSN if I did not do it then. I am now 50, and glad that I did it that way. I got my first management position 8 months after graduating. I personally do not believe I would have gotten it with an ADN. Though I do know ADNs who are very good managers.
