BSN or ADN for a person with a B.S. in Heath Science and a M.S. in Exercise Science?

Published

I'm thinking about entering nursing, would it benefit me to get a BSN or ADN to become a RN considering my educational health related background?

I think it will be a field that will utilize my passion to help people. My initial goal was PT hence the b.s. in health science. I then went on to my m.s. in exercise science to expose/prepare me for the rigorous PT programs. I decided i didn't want to pursue PT, and decided to look for ex phys jobs. Many are in cardiac rehab related and many employers are now just training the RN's to do these jobs. So here I am.

I say accelerated BSN. Although I don't have that Masters, I too have a BS in Health Science and am beginning final semester of ABSN program. That is why these programs were created. I have a classmate whose first degree is Fashion Design. You can do it!!!!!

hey did you find any the nursing courses similar to those of the health science program. I keep hearing and seeing that bsn courses are heavily geared towards leadership, organization, and theory. I don't know about your health science curriculum but mine had a lot of healthcare related courses and sciences such as: medical science 1 and 2, organization and administration of healthcare facilities, health care research and statistics, critical health issues, blah blah etc. I really don't want to take any more of those classes which are the same thing just have NUR in front of the name. I wish I can learn the technical and practical stuff and be done with it, just asking?

Specializes in Critical Care, Postpartum.
Thanks guys for the reply, accelerated BSN it is, plenty of programs here in Florida, hopefully I can find one that starts in Spring 12. Another question would my M.S. in Exercise Science help with landing job after I get my BSN? A lot of the course work focused on cardiac and respiratory rehabilitation and advanced human physiology.

Glad you decided to do the Accelerated BSN route. As far as your previous degrees, it won't help you land an RN job, just help you excel in your classes, such as Pathophysiology. I have two people in my class with your degrees and their knowledge of Patho was great they could teach the class. 90% of us in my ABSN program plan to continue on to grad school (either NP, CRNA, etc), maybe that's something you want to consider in the future.

I don't know if you're still looking for ABSN programs in FL but here is a list that can help you or others that may be looking: http://www.bestnursingdegree.com/programs/accelerated-bsn/

Also, when you get accepted, you maybe eligible to get out of some of those classes, such as Research, since you have already taken them from your other degrees.

Specializes in Electrophysiology, Medical-Surgical ICU.

I was gonna say go for the ABSN too!
