BScN RN to MSW

Published

Hi everyone!

i am new to the site. I have been nursing for eight years. I've been struggling with my career and where I want to go....I do not want to work in a hospital and there are minimal to no public health positions. My favorite part of nursing is sitting with people and learning about them and helping them plan how to work through social issues. Sooo... I have been accepted in a MN NP programs however I think I will be happier pursuing an MSW.

Can an anyone give me any feedback. Have you made this same switch? Can anyone recommend a MSW program to me that allows other bachelor degrees to apply to their program?

Thanks!

Laurel

Following your passion is always the way to go, but make sure you have an accurate understanding of that new role. Be prepared for a significant decrease in your income potential. Talk to some SWs to get an idea of their stressors - huge case loads are very common. High levels of burnout due to lack of support & inability to achieve/maintain professional goals & standards. I know quite a few ex-SWs, but nobody who went the other way.
