BS to Accelerated RN Program

40 is not late. I graduated from nursing school at 43 and had many fellow students around my age +/- and one in his 60s. So you're just fine.

A&P, Microbiology, and Chemistry cover a lot of information. I would probably concentrate on those subjects alone for now. Kahn Academy is a good online source... Khan Academy Although there are many out there.

If you are a visual person... search YouTube for videos on Human Anatomy, Circulatory system, Respiratory system, etc. But please ensure they legit educational videos (as you don't want to learn the wrong facts from amateurs ~ notwithstanding good intentions).

If you which textbooks the college is using, you may want to buy an old version. I say this because if you buy the current ones, you will pay top dollars and find yourself buying new versions by the time you reach your semester. So, in the interest of saving money... I would go for old versions. You should find them cheap through amazon or similar websites.

Once you are ready for nursing school, they will go into fundamentals of nursing, health assessments, diseases, pharmacology, nursing care plans, pediatrics, OB, critical care, etc. I do not recommend jumping into these subjects now because you will need that foundation (A&P, Micro, & Chem) to have a better understanding of the nursing courses.

Hi! I've been reading the posts on here for some time now, and just recently joined. I wanted to let you know I am in a similar situation. I will be turning 35 soon, and have been thinking about starting a second career and doing the Accelerated BSN program. As of right now, I'm trying to complete all of the pre-nursing core classes. I mostly have the science classes left. It's been over 10 years since I was in school, so I'm a bit nervous going back! However, I've always had a passion towards the nursing field. I am also hoping to start my program in Spring 2018! To prepare myself for upcoming classes, I've been getting older versions of books that my college will be using. Good luck with everything! :) Where will you be applying?

Are you actually accepted into an accelerated BSN program yet? If so, how did they allow you in before you have completed all of your prereqs?

Congratulations! I'm just starting out my pre-reqs but hoping to apply for 2018, which is a long ways away! I'm in CA.

I have 3 pre-reqs to finish ... because I already have a BS in an unrelated field I am a direct/preferred admit once the prerequisites are complete. (I think that was the wording)

This is my situation exactly. I am considering 2nd career at 35. First I was very nervous thinking am I too old than being a spirtiual person I realized how many people I know working in there 60s...with that thought 35 was a small number. We hear its never too late but really...some situtation do have expiring dates. I went off to barnes and nobles bought me few subjects book and started to study. I am hopingt to enroll in private college and take bridge programs to BSN. Good luck!!!

Hello! While I'm still reasonably young at 27 (I will fingers crossed be 28 when I start my journey), I wanted to chime in and say that I have many friends in my circle that switched to nursing at ALL different phases of life. My H is a PA and he tells me all the time how so many wonderful nurses he works with entered the field at different ages. When he was in school, there were a lot of young people, but a good chunk of his class were married with kids, a mortgage and an entirely different career before they entered the program. There was a previous math teacher and a music teacher. Everyone graduated and is practicing just fine.

It's a very common career switch for ALL ages and I'm sure upon acceptance to a program, you'll see that. Best of luck to you!
