Brown Mackie Nursing-Lenexa KS??!!

Published

I need some help! I graduated in 2001 as an LPN. I then went on to get my BA is psychology and am 4 classes into my Master's of Healthcare Admin. I have decided to get my RN before finishing my Master's because I believe it will make me more reputable. (I have no management experience and really need to get my foot in the door working).

I work from home full-time and have 3 small kids so time is tricky for me. I am looking into Brown Mackie but have been reading some negative feedback from previous years. I am not seeing much of anything current though-so I am wondering if they are getting better?? I also want to get my BSN (because it won't take that long since I will already have my LPN, RN and BA is psych), and I want to know if I can go to another school to do that after graduating at BM. And, will I be eligible to take the NCLEX in MO?? That is where I live and the school is in KS. I just don't want to get done and then not be able to take the test. The advisor I spoke with said the entire program for me would be about 6 mos because of my previous classes. Therefore, the time really is appealing to me-if I know I can work as RN after testing!

Thanks in Advance!!:nurse:

the program involves alot of self teaching and it is hard because of the accelerated pace but its doable. I graduated there with my RN in Sept 2008, passed my boards the first try and have had no issues finding work. Hope this helps:)

have you looked at the accelerated bsn programs since you aleady have ba degree + masters classes? fast-track baccalaureate programs take between 11 and 18 months to complete, including prerequisites

two in kansas are:

midamerica nazarene university

wichita state university

nclex is a national test and results can be used to obain license in any us state as long as nursing program meets board of nursing qualifications.

I would also suggest an accelerate BSN if you could handle the accelerated pace and your undergraduate gpa was good. No matter what bridge program you do it is going to be difficult. The downsides to Brown Mackie is that it is rediculously expensive, the nclex pass rates for the last 2 years (since they started the rn program) are well below average for the state of Kansas and US as a whole (like 62% and 67%, at that pace they may not retain their accreditation), I was told that they now have a waiting list (unless you have preques to do), and it doesn't have the greatest reputation. Perhaps you should check out local community colleges as well. And FYI Rockhurst and William Jewell both have accelerated 1 year BSN programs on the Missouri side, if you might want to go that route.

Thank You all so much for responding. I have looked into the 3 accelerated BSN programs and unfortunately none of them are going to work with my schedule. I have decided to go with EC and work online. I am confident I can do it. Have any of you had experience with EC? I know I am NOT going through TCN-what a ripoff! I am going to buy my books off E-bay. Thanks again for the advice.

EC might be just the thing for you, just be aware that it is not accepted in the state of Kansas. Meaning after successful completion you can not set for the NCLEX-RN for the state of Kansas. At this time Missouri does, so you could take the boards for MO and then would be eligible for a KS license by endorsement after working 1000 hours with your Missouri RN license, that was the case last I heard. Just incase moving was in your plans in the future there are a few other states with similary rules requiring you to work from 6mo-2yrs including Georgia, Illinois, and a few others; California on the other hand does not accept EC graduates at all, not by endorsement or retesting, nothing unless they started before that law was on the books. So you can NEVER have a California license as it stands now. Just FYI.

Hi just a big note about brown mackie!!

DO NOT SIGN ANY CONTRACT!! THEY are into taking your money, and if they say 6 months don't count on it. There classes are a joke, they just give you what you need to pass classes. They are totally unorganized, they lie just to get you to sign the contract. Its been reviewed by the Kansas Nursing Board, has a passing score of 60% on NCLEX, and they don't say how many times they took it. I got in because they screwed up my transfer grades. Started the lpn to rn class, and they did not know what they were doing, the teacher prepared in class, gave you a bunch of copies, had 4 weeks and didn't know what was going on. So I wrote a letter to drop out of the program to the president. She never answered me, and because I signed the contract I had to pay the money!!! There classes are not transferable in many areas. Most of the time they just take advantage of people to get government loans. They told me they could not find my test scores from 3 semesters ago. They should be closed down, I have never been so upset in my life. I had to pay them $5000.00 dollars for nothing. They would even transfer my english and math classes till I was paid in full. DO NOT GO THERE!! They are not a college just a company trying to make a sale.

Hope this helps you, I have been telling everyone I can do not go there.

God Bless and go anywhere else!!

To anyone that is looking into BMC especially Salina Ks...dont waste your $$$$$$ or your time, they are all about the $$$$ and not about the student.. they don'/won't listen to any suggetions and how they handle careplans and clinicals is exhausting and humiliating... clinicals m-w-f t-th class all day you are up all night then going to ! Yes, I have a rotten huliliating and very expensive experience with them, but so have many others that I have met at this program, 3 students have 15,000.00 in student loans and nothing to show for it. They do what ever thay can to get the $$$$$ out of you and very little to help you succeed!!! Its very fast paced losts of home work hardly anytime to study, add children on top of it ... dont plan on working either!!! One other thing I am a non-traditional student of 50rs. ran a prescool, raised my 3 children and I would never allow them to be treated the way this program treats their

students ...They are all aboout $$$$...there are many other programs out there lots less $$$ and want to see you succed!!!! Ask yourself this do you just want to be a nurse or doyou reallly want to be a nurse...3 mos. fast pace like this your not really learning much just enough to hopefully pass your tests thats if you make it through your clinicals!!!

Well I went to brown Mackie and I went thru the LPN program, it was hard I'm not gonna lie but the teachers they have their now are extremely knowledgeable and caring. The problem is with the non transferability I am going back for my RN just because I don't want to start over... I'm hoping that after I have my RN license I can get my bsn online some where my ultimate goal is to be a DNP I'm thinking chamberlain might be the only way to go if they accept me

How was the classes? Course work? Clinicals? I'm enrolling in the lenexa location. I have credits from concorde that's transferring in.
