Brown Mackie Nursing-Lenexa KS??!!
Well I went to brown Mackie and I went thru the LPN program, it was hard I'm not gonna lie but the teachers they have their now are extremely knowledgeable and caring. The problem is with the non transferability I am going back for my RN just because I don't want to start over... I'm hoping that after I have my RN license I can get my bsn online some where my ultimate goal is to be a DNP I'm thinking chamberlain might be the only way to go if they accept me

Hospital Vs Private Practice
I guess I need to clarify I have worked in vascular surgery, we were private practice but the nurses still rounded rounded at the hospital and saw all of our patients. We were involved with hospitals but we were our own entity. And I know it sounds petty but I really want my weekends off. I have been working weekends for years and right now I am working double weekends to get through nursing school and still make 40 hours a week and I am tired of it. I can't do the things that I want to do because I am working and I am not talking about going out to bars or anything like that. I used to do a lot of charity work with rodeo associations that I belonged to and I would volunteer at their rodeos and help raise money so they could put them on and now because of my schedule I can't do that anymore rodeos are on the weekends. I kinda have a feeling that if I walk in as a new grad nurse and say I want weekends off in a hospital setting the person hiring me is going to be rolling on the floor laughing. But I learned way more working in private practice than I did in say long term care I know every place is different but I like the variety I get with private practice one day I could be helping in billing the next day I could be assisting in in office procedures

Hospital Vs Private Practice
So I am kinda wanting to poll the "audience" so to speak. I am in nursing school and have expressed interest in after completing schooling I would like to go into private practice. Question why am I getting such negative responses to that expression? I have been told that private practice is where nurses go to retire, that only nurses that can't cut it in a hospital go to private practice and even so far as to say that say I must be lazy. I want to work in private practice because I like the setting I have been in private practice for years off and on and I absolutely love it. Me personally I think hospital setting is basically the healthcare version of "corporate america." I don't have anything against hospitals, I have even considered working in one but my passion is private practice. So what is everyone else's thoughts on the matter?

Transitioning from MTF
Awesome that is so good to hear. Thanks for your comment. Yeah I don't know how its going to work so far. I am seeing a therapist and we both came to the agreement that it would be a lot easier to go through the transition process after completing nursing school. Nursing school is far too stressful to try to add something like this on top of it and after reading a lot of posts that have been posted regarding transitioning in nursing school I would rather not do it. I think the proper thing to do is to wait until I am finished then get my degrees changed over.

Transitioning from MTF
I am a transgender nursing student that is currently going to school and working as a male but I want to transition after getting my RN. My question is can my license be revoked because of this my state considers GID (gender identity disorder) as a serious mental illness will that bar me from practicing. Another question, if this isn't a problem then do I just apply for a name change how does it work?

About transgendered patients
Personally I think hospital need to update their clinical forms that they have patients fill out. One hospital I was at had male female and other with a space to write what your other is...I also agree with what someone said regarding having nursing students do a project with local LGBT companies. The main thing is to be respectful and non judgemental

Student HIPAA violation question
Sorry I am just stating what I have been taught and maybe it isn't a HIPAA violation but the only reason that it stuck with me is because it was a test question that was pretty much that scenario and I had got it wrong because I didnt see the harm in it either and that is when my professor broke everything down for me.
