Broward College Questions

Published

hey to all,

i am beginning to worry :o and i haven't even started the nursing program. i have a million questions i am looking for 2 million answers. to all who can answer i thank you and all comments are welcome.

  • what will my summer schedule look like with the prospective times and days?
  • what is the math course for and can i possibly be exempt considering i have taken college algebra and currently in statistics?
  • i read somewhere that we can only take 10 nursing credits per semester, but then i was under the impression your first semester you have to take mtb 1370 which is math for health related professionals and apb 1600 which is pharmacology. which is it?
  • in order for me to continue my education at most universities, say fau for instance, i will need to take a 3 credit pharmacology. why is their pharmacology only 2 credits and what should i do about that? will bc allow me take it at pbcc and transfer it in? or will i have to repeat the class for three credits, which sucks by the way?
  • how would i know what professors to take, i mean come on, anyone who can tell me who to take for certain classes and whom to avoid. even if you can't post it here please send me an email or we can chat via phone.
  • what does the schedules look like for fall 2009, spring 2010, and fall 2010 again.
  • do they tell you what classes to register for or do you just pick the classes you want to take next in the program?
  • this is not another question i promise....... just a few thank u's in advance for your time.

hey to all,

i am beginning to worry :o and i haven't even started the nursing program. i have a million questions i am looking for 2 million answers. to all who can answer i thank you and all comments are welcome.

  • what will my summer schedule look like with the prospective times and days? (got this info from another thread, thanks to leavingteaching.....mf lecture from 9-12, tw clinical 6-2 or campus lab 7-3 , r or f math)
  • what is the math course for and can i possibly be exempt considering i have taken college algebra and currently in statistics? i am almost certain this is not possible, because others who have previous bachelor's degrees, who have obviously had taken math classes to get that bachelor's degree, have to take the mtb1370 class.

  • i read somewhere that we can only take 10 nursing credits per semester, but then i was under the impression your first semester you have to take mtb 1370 which is math for health related professionals and apb 1600 which is pharmacology. which is it? it's both. the first semester is the only time you are allowed to take apb1600 and mtb1370 at bc. i believe you can take other non-nursing classes along with your nursing classes, for instance micro, but you cannot take other nursing classes on top of the ones you arer supposed to be taking at any particular time.

  • in order for me to continue my education at most universities, say fau for instance, i will need to take a 3 credit pharmacology. why is their pharmacology only 2 credits and what should i do about that? i can't answer this, but i would talk to an advisor. will bc allow me take it at pbcc and transfer it in? many people have told me to do this but i have never talked to an advisor to see if it was able to be transferred over for certain. or will i have to repeat the class for three credits, which sucks by the way? hopefully not.

  • how would i know what professors to take, i mean come on, anyone who can tell me who to take for certain classes and whom to avoid. even if you can't post it here please send me an email or we can chat via phone. i can't answer this either, sorry
  • what does the schedules look like for fall 2009, spring 2010, and fall 2010 again.summer 09 (got this info from another thread, thanks to leavingteaching......see below)
  • do they tell you what classes to register for or do you just pick the classes you want to take next in the program? the way i understand it is you are on a track, and you stay within that track (unless you fail a course). you will take gi/gu right after nursing process 2; you will take cardio after ortho/neuro, etc. you can't just take cardio right after process.
  • this is not another question i promise....... just a few thank u's in advance for your time. hopefully, i answered some questions, lol

Don't worry so much!

enjoy the free time you have now, when you are in the program focus on your studies and you should do fine.

As long as you have an AA, your AS in nursing, you should not have a problem getting into any state RN-bsn program---

best wishes!

  • what will my summer schedule look like with the prospective times and days?sunray has the current schedule. however, rumor has it that the school may change the schedule beginning this summer. so, just stay tuned. you may have fridays off instead of thursdays.
  • what is the math course for and can i possibly be exempt considering i have taken college algebra and currently in statistics? not possible to exempt the math course. i've known math teachers and students with a master's in business administration who couldn't get out of the math course. the math is basic rates and proportion though.
  • i read somewhere that we can only take 10 nursing credits per semester, but then i was under the impression your first semester you have to take mtb 1370 which is math for health related professionals and apb 1600 which is pharmacology. which is it? see sunray girl's message. lol

  • how would i know what professors to take, i mean come on, anyone who can tell me who to take for certain classes and whom to avoid. even if you can't post it here please send me an email or we can chat via phone.you can't. there is only one teacher for each course. in process, you are randomly assigned a clinical instructor. after that, there are ways of picking and choosing.
  • what does the schedules look like for fall 2009, spring 2010, and fall 2010 again. see sunray girl's post.
  • do they tell you what classes to register for or do you just pick the classes you want to take next in the program?you must follow the track.
  • this is not another question i promise....... just a few thank u's in advance for your time.

try not to panic. don't be scared. just be prepared!

Hey to all,

In order for me to continue my education at most universities, say FAU for instance, I will need to take a 3 credit Pharmacology. Why is their Pharmacology only 2 credits and what should I do about that? Will BC allow me take it at PBCC and transfer it in? Or will I have to repeat the class for three credits, which sucks by the way?

You know, I went and looked at FAU's RN-BSN program requirements and did not see anything about having to take pharm, I only saw it on the traditional RN program requirement page. So, you shouldn't have to worry. I also did not see it as a requirement for FIU or FSU's programs either (it wasn't a pre-req for the program OR part of the courses offered during the program). This was only for the RN-BSN tracks, not traditional tracks, which you wouldn't have to worry about.

Yes, it's not listed but a while back I was speaking with Maureen Brooks and she advised me of this. That was a while ago and she specifically stated that if I plan on attending PBCC I need to take the 3 credit pharm instead of the 2 credit. Anyhow, I will check with her again to make sure, thanks again.

This may be a specific issue for PBCC, which offers more than one type of pharm class. When I was going to take pharm at PBCC and transfer it to BC, I was also warned to be sure to enroll in the right course.
