Broward College Nursing January 2012

Published

Hey everyone!

This is a thread for anyone applying for the January 2012 class at Broward college for the generic nursing track. July 16th was the date to start applying and I believe it closes sometime in October. How many points does everyone have? I had to defer my seat so I will be starting in January for sure at north campus! :D if I can be of any help with questions pertaining to getting in or the HESI I will be glad to help! Good luck everyone!!

Are those the immunizations we have to get? Also, there are other course that i have not taken yet but am registered for; courses to certify us in the following:

HSC0591 (formerly CAE0382) – HIV/AIDS

o HSC0522 (formerly CAE0476) -TB/OSHA/Hepatitis

o HSC0405 (formerly CAE0299) - BLS-Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (CPR) : The CPR curriculum must be approved by the American Heart Association

o HSC0691 (formerly CAE0474) - Domestic Violence

o CAE0528 - Prevention of Medical Errors

At Broward College they charge about $100. A nurse at work gave me this website: CEUfast.com

Its $30 for a yearly subscription and you can take as many tests how many times you need to. I am sure you can unsubscribe once you have taken all the courses that you need, if you want.

I think its way cheaper and more convenient. I will ask during orientation to make sure Broward College accepts there certifications. Check it out :)

I registered for the classes at Broward (2 at Central campus and the other 3 online) and it's going to cost $169.95.:coollook: I'm hoping after orientation I might learn a cheaper way to take those classes. I'm defiantly going to check out that website and ask on the 20th.

Does anyone know somewhere else we can take those classes (preferably online)? I heard you can online at Sheridian Tech but I cant seem to find any info out on their website, I might need to call.

I heard about CEUfast.com as well but I wanted to be sure that they would take it. I searched all over Sheridan's website and I was unable to find any information. I am going to give them a call tomorrow and I will let you all know what I find out. Also, does the drug test and fingerprinting have to be done at a specific location.

Thanks!

wait, for the titers and physical if we just go to the doctors office and we have insurance wont it be cheaper ???

It just depends on your type of insurance. I got all of that done for UCF/VALENCIA before I had to drop out and my insurance covered it. I have Blue Cross of Michigan.

My doctors office said that insurance will not pay for the titers, they would only pay for the actual vaccinations(IF THAT), and only IF they were not already given. If you have not had a physical in the last year, then yes, your annual physical should be covered by your insurance.

But hey, you never know, you can call your insurance company and verify coverage of titers. ;)

i completed my hcp course at sheridan, which included the bls and all of the ceus. they do not have much info on their website. but you can contact the professor directly via e-mail, she will answer any questions and give you all the info, shes super nice and quick! i am not sure if they offer them al la carte, but you can def ask, her e-mail is [email protected]

and as far as the fingerprinting and drug testing, there are links to those forms on bc's website, however, i am sure they will go over all of it in detail in orientation. thats why i am hesitant to get started on them!

Does anyone know anything about the uniforms we need to buy? I mean, I know that they are at the bookstore and cost about $25 each piece.... But do we have to buy a certain amount of them? Also, do we need the polo shirts? I guess I could wait until next week for the pre admission meeting but I'm way too excited... Lol. Is anyone else planning to attend Central campus?

Yes you do need the polo shirts. I was at central campus bookstore yesterday and I just so happen to walk into a student already in the nursing program. She said that the polos are required for theory class. i believe theory is 2-3 times a week. As far as the scrubs go they are required for clinicals and lab. The scrub top is $20 and the bottom is also $20. The polos cost $27.50 each.

My opinion, the uniforms are way to expensive. I think they forget that it is students that will be purchasing these uniforms.
