Broward College New Student Advice - Study Now?

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I will be entering my first term at Broward College and will have 2-3 months off.

What can I study so I can be prepared for the first term?

I have 2-3 months and heard how hard it is in the first term and I want to get an early start.

What books should I get and start studying?

Thanks

yes! that's the book.

I had an older version, 2003 or 2004, then a new one came out a few months later with colored pics, which was exactly the same thing.

but definitely, if you can get the latest version as they change the nclex all the time.

I read here under nursing news that the nclex will be changed to a higher standard passing rate for april 2010. which they do change the nclex every 3 years.

they had just changed it when I took it in 2007-- and I was doing super nervous.

well, today I am gonna be studying, I have my test Jan 12. for FIU- I'm a little nervous, but everybody I know has passed those EC tests by studying nclex-rn books. so I will do the same.

I remember before starting, I wanted to find out everything about the BC's nursing program, and how to succeed because 2 people I knew that started, they both had failed it.... at central and south campus.

So I knew it was going to be a challenge first thing....... the second thing is, meeting a person a year into the program who told me to get the saunder's comprehensive review book....... the third study every hour I could, without watching TV, no music, no whatever just focused on the exams.

I remember going to the first exam where I had read everything, and I got a 40/50...... which is a C grade, and I was in shock-- I had studied so hard. Then I heard the grades for other students-- 33,32 and then my 40 didn't look so bad.

So the moral of the story is to study hard for every test. READ everything in your perry & potter book. Do the questions on the packet that tells you the objectives for every subject. and you will be fine.

I will be starting at South Campus this Spring, i'm very nervous because I'm still having problems with medication conversions. Do you go over math conversions as a class lecture at all?

Thank you :)

You should have registered for MTB1370 (when you registered for NUR1020 and NUR1210) which is a 4 week math course. In the course, they will go over the math problems in class. Plus, you can go to the library and see the tutor there for any extra help you may need. I'm pretty sure south campus has one. North does.

Hi,

Yes you will definitely understand the math better after you take the 4 week math class. However, it is very fast paced so if you don't understand a concept ask for help immediately. I know a lot of people who fail out because of math. Everytime you start a new clinical which is every 8 weeks, you have to take a math test and score no less than a 90%. If you get below that the first time, you get a second opportunity and if you fail the second time then you have to retrack. So definitely know your math because it doesn't end until the program is over!!!

oh I wish you all the best of luck!

I remember being a student there & during clinicals we always ran into RN's who were once students from BC as well.

We are definitely more relaxed after school-

About the books-------

People used the old versions in my class and they were fine.

I am a little mad-- in one of my classes, the teacher is using a older edition of the book, and he wrote a question on the test that was word for word on the old book--- and it wasn't on the newer edition.
