Broward College hopeful for May 2013 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Florida

I know there is a lot of confusion going around with the new requirements for the BC nursing program so I wanted to start a thread for those of us finishing prerequisites and applying in January. I'm in the Core class now, but other than that I'm finished with everything else and getting very excited to start next year!

For people who have found there Stethoscope, Watch, and Shoes where have you purchased it and what brand? I ask because I know BC sells stethoscopes and watches so didn't know what the alternatives are and where people have been purchasing them.

Also, I know when I was considering my options for the medical field I was looking into other programs. When those people found out they were accepted into they program they started a Facebook group for all students accepted into the same graduating class. This made things a bit more convenient as you were able to see who was in your class, ask questions on the FB board, plan meet ups for study groups etc. Dunno if its something we should do, but just throwing the thought out there.

I've been searching online for my items although I have checked them out at uniform advantage in Pembroke Lakes mall. For stethoscope I'm going with Littmann which is the best brand out there. Shoes and watch I'm getting from nursemates.

Love the FB idea, however it may be a thing we want to do once we pick our campus. I'm down for starting up a south campus may 2013 page as that is the campus I want to attend.

Sounds like a great idea, has someone done it yet or should I? About the shoes, do they have to be 100% leather, or can they be mesh and leather athletic shoe? If so, then I am going with the all white Nike Free running shoes (similar to the picture, but all white instead of grey accent) especially since I already have several pairs already and know how awesome they are.

I believe they need to be all leather. This is because if any liquids or bio hazard material should spill on your shoes you want to be able to wipe out away easily. With cloth and mesh it has the chance to soak in which would not be good.

For the FB group idea I forgot they were offering multiple campuses. So may best to to wait till then :p

Christopher, Dr. Beck is right. Shoes must be all leather. I've seen men's all leather shoes called Avia at uniform advantage in Pembroke Lakes Mall. Here is the link: http://www.uniformadvantage.com/pages/prod/avia-mens-athletic-shoe-js.asp?navbar=7&frmcolor=white

You know what all of the nursing shoes are!! Even the ones for women! But....I'd rather be protected from bodily fluids, blood, etc. than looking fashionable.

Hi All,

I aced my micro midterm yesterday and I am finally starting a much needed spring break! I went up to North to get some of the forms we need, (they are online) and a girl was dropping her nursing classes and saying the classes are so hard. It does rattle my confidence.

My sister is a cardiologist and she advised not to spend too much on a stethoscope. A friend who is a nurse told me that she splurged on a stethoscope and a doctor walked off with it. I do like the idea of one that is light/portable that can be used for adults and peds.

I have been looking at New Balance shoes that were reviewed well online. I had a pair Avias some years ago that I liked, so I will check those, too. My friend mentioned that the nurses love C&C Sweden shoes. They are cuter, but not really what I am looking for.

Stacie, it looks like we will be at different campuses, unfortunately. We can compare and gossip, though. Less than three months until we begin!

I still have my stethoscope from core class, $15 in the bookstore. That'll do for now. As for the shoes and watch, I couldn't care less what they look like.

I bought my shoes today. I tried on every single pair of nursemates at Uniform advantage and then tried on a pair of dansko shoes. Oh my goodness ladies the dansko shoes are so comfy. If I didn't get those I was going to get the nursemate Dove's.

AbyJr what campus are you going to attend?

Really?? I'm gonna check them out. The nurse mates look more comfortable. I will probably go tomorrow.

To me they are but every foot is different. I literally tried on every nurse mate shoe, I'll admit the dove was comfortable but I was more comfortable in dansko's. they have better arch support and I have high arches.

Ok, you sold me...I have plantar fasciitis..not to share too much but from years of wearing flip flops and bad shoes my arches have fallen. Then I move to Florida and all the floors in our house are tile an bingo...major foot problemo...

So this shoe selection is really important to me. I know they aren't cute, but I the arch support.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you spend?
