Hi everyone! I'm at a dilemma with the nursing program at central campus for broward college. I have the opportunity to either attend Broward College in Fort Lauderdale or Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans LA. I would really like to go to Broward, but they seem to have a VERY low passing rate and I'm just scared to waste my money on something. Does anyone that has been there have any recommendations for me?

I went there for prerequisites, they are known to have a VERY TOUGH program but it has a reputation of being the best in the state. I do know people that have completed the program but it is very intense and it is not advised that you work. I am now in Pa so I'm starting a program up here. I hope this help. Good luck to you

I reply to you in honesty as I have been in the Broward College nursing program-Central campus in Davie Fl in 2012. Do not attend this program at Broward. I, along with 90 students joined in August 2012 and by the end of the 1st semester only 20 passed on to the next semester-Not including me. I did not have prior nursing background and it was a hard lesson however, I completed my LPN degree at McFatter Technical school in Davie Fl and am currently at Miami Dade College for my RN degree.
I love it at Miami Dade and would recommend it to anyone. The professors at Broward go full in as though you already know half of the material taught and it is intense. I have seen many of the students that were in my group at Broward at other schools now-due to them failing out of the program. I have heard professors from Broward warning students about their nursing program and am telling you genuinely because I do not wish hurt on anyone or for anyone to waste their time/money /hopes/dreams and go into a program like nursing at Broward. Heartache and wasted time. Wish that you make the right choice for you. Good luck on your nursing career.

Broward has a very high NCLEX passing rate but a very very very low attrition rate. The program is incredibly tough, many of the classmates I started with have retracked or dropped out completely. I chose broward for financial reasons, you should pick the school you think you would excel and grow in.
Are there any other nursing schools in the area that you would suggest?

Hi!
I probably can shed some light on the BC program since I am a current student. There are a lot of rumors going around about BC wanting to "weed" or "fail" people out. The honest truth in my opinion is that regardless of the tough love and intensity of the program, it is a GREAT program. Do they not have flaws? No, every program does. When I applied to the program for the Jan term I was always on allnurses trying to get the scoop on the program. I had past students and past graduates tell me to go somewhere else, I still chose BC. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. I know that I will be well prepared and competent as a nurse when I graduate. When I go to clinicals I am always told by nurses on the floor that they love BC students because we are on a different level compared to local universities. That takes time, sweat, tears and a lot of coffee & anxiety! lol BUT it is all worth it. Yes it is true that you will start with 100 people and only 15-30 will make it. The same happened to our cohort. Did someone hold my hand the whole way? NO. I eat, sleep and read. My life revolves around this program. If you have a question professors want you to try to find the answer yourself. Not because they are being mean but because when you are a nurse you need that initiative and inquisitive mind.
Now, I am a self learner and have no problem trying to teach myself information. If you have a hard time with that then you may not be too happy as a student. I have made it through the program this far WITHOUT failing a class. I don't get mad if the professor doesn't spoon feed me but thats just me. It depends on what kind of student you are. I rave about the program even though I cursed its existence during return demos in process 1 & 2. Truthfully once I got past process everything got better for me. I adapted, learned how to cope and how to manage my time. Most of the people that told me the program was terrible didn't get past process so I take what they said with a grain of salt. Just like you should what I say.
Good luck with whatever decision you make.
