U.S.A. Florida

Published

Did anyone already turn in there applications for Fall 2009 @ B.C.? because I am turning mine in next week before the deadline and now I have to wait AGAIN and keep continually looking at my e-mail and the myBC account for the Limited Access Program everyday hopefully I get in THIS TIME being my 3rd time :yeah:

You're GPA would give you about 8 pts, and if you're a Broward resident, add another point for 9.

It looks like the cutoff was right around 9, but my friend had 8 and was put on the alternate list. She was told more than likely she'd be in (all the alternates were told this). She was going to double check today. I'd say you have a good shot.

I got a response from my financial aid contact who heard back from Twana that everything will be fine with registration, not to worry. I hope you see this note before you go trudging over there today.

Thanks. I haven't left yet. That's good to hear.

Did anybody notice that for the North campus Pharm class that the ref # (374002) is not there, but if you try to add the class it says its full?

everytime i call broward they tell me something different regarding the nursing program. i did not get into the program because of my stupid c dragging me down! also how do they calculate the labs vs. classes?

please help me to clarify:

these are my grades:

a&p 1 c

a&p l b eliminate- does not count

a&p 2 b

a&p l b eliminate- does not count

chm b

enc b

i want to retake a&p 1 - i am told it must be taken at a private college, not (public) such as fiu which someone indicated they did on this board.

what is correct?

i was also told that taking another chemistry class would help my grade, and microbiology does not help unless there is a tie.

please help!:banghead:

bc does not calulate the labs into the gpa if that was the case i would have started the program in may. you do not have to go to a private college but you can go to a public university, such as fiu like i did/am doing now. in spring of 09 i re-took a&p1 and now in the summer i am re-taking chemistry, which bc also accepts and you can take another chemistry but i not going to take organic chem (that my personal thing)

Thanks for the input Faith8_88, Im sorry to hear you did not get into the program.

I tried to transfer to FIU, just as you did, and that is when I received an email saying it was not possible to retake A&P 1 at FIU.

Did you already get your grade at FIU? Was it accepted at BC? Who did you speak to at BC that said it was OK? I am waiting for a response back from Chinara ~ advisor on North Campus in the Health Services Department, But the Dean of Health and Sciences said it must be repeated at a private institution....although he didn't know at first...and had to ask the advisor who sent me the email to why she was denying my transient student request.

I have spoken to so many people at the campus and on the phone, north and central, and they all say different things.....

When I had retaken A&P1 I currently had a C but when I had retaken it I received an A. BC health admissions office told me they will accpet it which they did when I applied for Fall 09, my pts went from a 2 to a 7 (a big change) and b/c I am retaking chem I will most likely recieve a B which will really boost my points up. But as far as speaking with a dean I did not do that I just transfered to FIU for 2 semesters to boost my GPA to return to BC. I might apply to FIU nursing program but they next enrollment for generic bsn is next may, to long of a wait.

Faith,

I am sorry to say but they DO calculate the labs into the GPA. My program GPA is 3.57, and if the labs were not counted, my program GPA would have been just 3.5.

The process of figuring out program GPA's was explained to me by current nursing students, and what I previously posted before is the correct way to figure out your program GPA. That being said, the labs aren't weighted as heavily as the lecture classes because they are only one credit hour. As you can see from my GPA example, the labs only raised my GPA .07 which isn't very much.

Boda-

I don't know if there are supposed to be two Pharm classes at North or not, but there is another one. The reference number of the class that is full says there is only 1 seat and that 1 seat is filled.

Faith8_88,

What is the prefix and number of the class which you took at FIU? I just spoke with Twana (Tawana?) at North Campus Health Department, who said if it is the same course it will not replace the BSC 1085....she said it has to have a completely different prefix. She said most students retake at a private college.

So then if it was accepted...what was the course number/prefix? Thanks!

I was able to see the fall term schedule this morning... now it has disappeared from the drop down box where you choose the term you want to look at. Anyone else having the same problem?

can we take the 4 hr hiv/aids course from ceufast? at orientation, twana only mentioned the 1 hr course and said we couldn't take it at ceufast, and she made it seem like we would have to find a place to take it. i just want to make sure the 4 hr one will be ok.

sorry, i can't answer this question. i completed my hiv/aids at bc.

about retaking the courses......

if you retake them as a non-degree student, and you don't send your transcripts, how will that raise the grades for people needing to boost their gpa?

transfer the transcript from fiu to bc after you complete the a&p course. however, i know some students who didn't transfer their bc transcript to fiu. in one case specifically, a student took a course at pbcc and never transfered the credits b/c she didn't like the grades. although, they claim to be, the schools aren't linked yet to track students unless you are transient.

bc does not calulate the labs into the gpa

i'm pretty sure the labs are calculated. the chem lab isn't however.
