hi everyone,

just wondering if you would recommend cna training to someone? i am wondering about approximate pay, if current cnas like their job, etc. i am a nurse but my brother is looking for a job and has thought of cna. he lives in the north houston, texas area. any thoughts would really be appreciated! he has also thought of phlebotomy...

I would definitely recommend becoming a CNA or Patient care tech. Some places actually train pct's in phlebotomy, wound care, and catheters. Pay is variable of course with the shift differentials. I make 13.25 prn but I live in FL.

Certainly would recommend that he get a CNA certificate. Could lead to a good job in a hospital and be the start of his career in nursing. Once he is working as a CNA, then I would think about pursuing phlebotomy certfication. The training is very expensive in my area and job opportunities are slim, they look for experience, so it would be better if he gets the CNA first so he is earning. Give him our best wishes.

I'd recommend CNA on the way to something else, especially if he's considering nursing school. If he wants to stay put in a position with a minimum of training, he should choose phlebotomy.
