Brookhaven Nursing Program

Published

Hi there!

I am applying to Brookhaven's (Texas) nursing program for Fall 2015 and am wondering if there are any current or past students that can give me some insight about what the schedule is like once admitted to the program. I am wondering about class and clinical schedules, is it a 5 day/week class load, or are there classes only on certain days? Are clinicals any day of the week? How many days? Do/did any of you work during school?

I am 31 and know I will have to quit my full time day job, but in preparation, I am trying to brainstorm about other job opportunities during nursing school to help supplement my income, and who better to ask than people who are currently or who have already lived it?! I want to be sure I am as prepared as possible for the time commitments that nursing school will require of me.

Thank you for any advice!

Erica

Yeah, settling in with today being first day in class....exciting😉

To your, question....I want to assume you are done with all your prereqs & support courses to garner as much points as u can. Have u taken all your shots? No, cover letter is not required. You just turn in everything in hard copy and it is checked off. Quick question, how many points are you applying with?? What ever you do, you will be pointed in the right direction by Ms. Barbara at the front desk.

I am happy to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge and you can also go the office to get all the info you need first hand.

Good luck.

I hope your first day of class was great!! I am applying with 28 points.. and they have changed the point system this go 'round as far as which pre reqs are assigned how many points, etc etc. It's quite different from last application period, and definitely seems to be in my favor. When I went to go over my packet a couple of weeks ago, she sounded confident that my points were likely enough for an interview..although she couldn't guarantee anything.. I sure hope so! She also told me that my vaccines just had to be done before I started nursing school and not before applying. With that said, I have had all of my titers and vaccines done and am awaiting my last shot in the hep a/b series. She also said the same thing about the CPR class- I just needed to get it done before nursing school started, assuming I am accepted. So, I plan to take that in May-ish when my other courses are over. Thanks for the info on the cover letter- I didn't see one was required but I guess I have never applied to anything without writing one, so I wasn't sure:) I am going to turn my application in on Friday.. then commence the lonnngggggg wait until March 20th when I find out yay or neigh!

Hi! I'm currently taking pre-nursing classes in Denton but looking into Brookhaven to transfer because I've heard it is less competitive (which I know can change quickly) but I have a question, are the support classes counted towards points for applying? I'm reading the website and assuming those classes would be maybe microbiology? I see now that the points needed are at least 18. What was it when you applied to the program? Also, I read in your thread you were taking pharmacology before being accepted in the nursing program, is that considered a nursing course or support course? Everything is so different compared to where I'm attending school at now and the requirements change rapidly! So I'd like to reach out to people who are working their way towards applying at Brookhavens nursing program as well.. Did you take your science pre reqs at Brookhaven, if so who (professor) could you recommend for a&p 1&2 and chemistry? Thanks in advance for answering. And I hope all is going well for you throughout your journey! :)

Hi, are there any professors at Brookhaven you'd recommend for a&p 1&2, microbiology, or chemistry? I'm currently a pre-nursing student and transferring to Brookhaven soon.
