Brookhaven College Nursing Program Fall 2014

Published

Hi everyone, I haven't seen any thread about BHC Fall '14 so I made one! I am applying this February at Brookhaven community college for Fall 2014. I took Hesi last year for trial and I will be taking the Hesi for real again this February and I have been studying really hard this Winter break! Goodluck everyone, if I do not get accepted I have plan B which to go ahead and try to apply in UTA.

Almost finished in all precourses needed just Micro and death dying this Spring but they are not counted this application so I am hoping to do well in Hesi!

Does anyone have any idea what the writing sample is about or over? Now that I have made it to the interview process, I am officially freaking out!

No email for me! :( does that mean I did not get in?

Have you checked your junk mail? That's where I found mines. I'm not sure why it went there because the previous emails came through my inbox.

Has anyone been able to make their appointment for the interview? I left a message but have not gotten a return call.. do I keep calling?

I missed my first call back but Ms. Baker said she was calling people back in the order of the voicemails.

Ok thanks! I'll wait till she calls back

Good luck to you guys, I did not get in because I have very low points, damn english portion always put me down haha.

Good luck to all of you! You guys are almost there, I will see you all wearing your green uniform in X building !

OMG! Thank you for who said check junk email! I have an interview too! Good luck to everyone!

You're welcome and Congrats!!! I'm so excited for everyone.

How is everyone preparing for their interviews this week?!

I'm just looking over questions that might be asked. I honestly don't really know how they do their interviews. Anyone have an idea? I know it's group... That's about it.

Specializes in NICU Nurse.

This is how it went 2 years ago when I went through the interview process. Things might have changed since then though so don't fully rely on my experience.

There were a panel of 4-5 nursing instructors. I interviewed alongside 4 other prospective students. Each of us were asked 2 questions and while we were answering we were scored by each instructor on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best). We did not get to see these scores. After the interview our interview scores were averaged and that average (1-5) was added to our overall score. We did not do a writing sample.

Questions we were asked were behavioral questions such as:

-Why nursing?

-Explain a time when you were overwhelmed, what did you do and what would you do differently now?

-Name and describe 3 qualities you think a nurse must have

-Explain a time when you had to work with a person that you didn't get along with. How did you deal with this person? What would you do differently now?

-How do you manage stress in your life?

-etc.

Some tips:

-After being asked a question, it is OK to take a moment to think about the answer. Before you answer take a deep breath and think about what you want to say.

-The panel of instructors are super nice and you will grow to love them during nursing school!

-It is totally OK to ask for them to repeat the question! I did several times ;)

-Dress in business attire. NO high heels (a slight heel is fine) or cleavage bearing tops! If you don't have a business suit that is fine, just wear some nice slacks and a blouse.

I hope you all do wonderfully! :) I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!
