bridge programs

Published

So I am going to be entering my last semester for my ADN! YAY! I am trying to plan my next step...First is obviously try to get a job, but what what I am trying to figure out is my next step in school. I have a previous B.A from a 4 year school, and will soon have a ADN. I want to continue on to get my NP or PA. Were I am not sure is do I need to get my BSN first or can I do a bridge program right into a NP? If I do the bridge program, and not obtain a BSN first will that affect my hiring ability??

Thank you for the advice and opinions.

Somewhere in this process, you will need to obtain some RN experience. You didn't provide any information about how you are going to do this. Of course, acute care experience is not absolutely essential for primary care NPs - but it is probably a requirement for admission to the program. If you can get a job as an ADN - that will provide the necessary experience - you could just plow through without stopping for that BSN.

Most ADN-MSN programs that I know about actually include a BSN along the way. This is a very good option - just in case you have any difficulties and have to either take an educational breather or drop out entirely. You don't want all that education to 'go to waste' with no degree to show for it.

Best of luck to you

thank you for your response! Yes getting experience is a must and is my first goal! But where my thought process is going is many places are not hiring if you only have an ADN. So I want to be proactive on my resume to future employers and show that I am actively searching or applying for programs. So I need to figure out if I should be applying for online BSN programs or if I can just make that leap to a bridge program to NP.

It depends on the school. Some will accept a non-nurskng bachelors. I would begin making a list of schools and their requirements. I'd look into Frontier.
