Boston Travel

Published

I will be moving to in the summer for my husband's job, therefore, I am considering travel nursing.

Health insurance will be provided through my husband's job and we are traveling with our dog so we are interesting in the housing stipend. We will be in Boston for one year. I have 4 years experience on a med/surg floor (specifically orthopaedics with neuro and gen surg overflow).

I am looking for any advice....

Just trying to understand your question.

It sounds like your husband took a short term (1 year) job in Boston and you want to know if you can take travel nursing assignments in Boston while you are there? You will have a dog and insurance through his work. Is that what you are asking?

If I have all that correct then.... I don't see any problems with your plan, there are plenty of assignments in Boston area and you can easily take the stipends if you want to do it that way. There is alot of info here on this sight and I suggest reading some or the threads in this forum.

As you are moving, not working away from home temporarily, the housing stipend is taxable as ordinary income. That removes a major benefit of travel nursing. If you are maintaining your home, you might be able to make a case for working away from a tax home, but a one year job contract by your husband will cost you in an audit.

You are better off taking a staff position in Boston. Union wages there are better than traveler pay.
