Boston Hospital Job Market

Published

I figured it was time for a more updated thread on the Boston job market...

So here's the deal. I graduated from an out of state University with my BSN last December and was fortunate enough to snag an ED position in a new grad program outside of Boston basically right away. I would be crazy to ditch a job at a level 1 trauma center as a new grad and have no plans of leaving anytime soon, but I am very interested in picking up a second job at one of the Boston hospitals. I'm most interested in BWH and realize it is hard to get in there. Early next year I will hit my 1 year in the ED and am hoping that my experience at that point would be sufficient to start applying out to the hospitals there. Ideally, I would like to stay in the ED, but truth be told, I would be willing to work on any floor just to get my foot in the door. So what's the job market currently like? I know it's next to impossible to get hired as a new grad unless you have a connection, but what about after 1 year of experience in a specialty area? Could I realistically land a job at one of the major hospitals and if so, which ones are most likely to hire someone with my credentials/years of experience. I have worked exceptionally hard to even be in the state, but my dream has always been to live and work in Boston. Any advice on how to make my dream a reality would be greatly appreciated.

Just curious what area you are in now and what you are making?

I work in the ER...

Specializes in Cardiothoracic ICU.

Hey it's been a while since your original post, have you been able to find a job inside the city? I am also interested in the health system that you were working outside of Boston, may I ask which hospital? I'll be a new grad very soon and I'm looking for opportunities. Thanks!
